to find royal morning sickness irritating

Having had to work through all my bouts of morning sickness and endure three labours at st marys (definitely not lindo wing) I have limited sympathy for Katiekins' morning sickness. I think she shouldve tried to cope with the engagement she had lined up this afternoon looking less than her usual perfect self. That wouldve sent out a great sign of solidarity to us mere mortals.

YABVVVVVU Op.

I had HG and it was horrific. I lost over a stone in weight the first 8 weeks and at points I was hospitalised and put on drips because I couldn't even drink water. Never mind puking all day long, I couldn't eat or drink anything, to be able to puke so it could ease the sick feeling. I would happily have puked all day and night instead!

Unless you have had HG you have no idea what's its like.

I can't remember the last time I handed one of these out but here you go Op, this ones from me! Biscuit

However I can't stand the constant Kate, Kate, Kate's is ill crap all over the papers.

ReallyTired · 08/09/2014 14:10

Kate is a mum and she might even be a mumsnetter. I feel this thread should be deleted.

I would not wish HG or SPD on my worst enemy.

Gruntfuttock · 08/09/2014 14:12

I think it was more of a reality check than sanctimony.

WorkingBling · 08/09/2014 14:14

I didn't have hg. My morning sickness did not involve vomiting. And I have still only just managed to work and carry on, and only because I have a huge amount of support from dh. I generally think the problem with the secrecy for first 12 weeks is that in many ways it's the time you need people to cut you the most slack. Both pregnancies I have had to tell boss and immediate colleagues because old sheer crapness I was feeling.

I cannot even begin to imagine hg or full blown morning sickness.

Good to hear it Smile. We are so lucky, and it's just miserable comparing life to others. Take care Flowers

AliceLidl · 08/09/2014 14:28

The Royal family cost the taxpayer something like 70p a year don't they?

Bit much to wish a pregnant woman or an unborn baby dead to save yourself the price of a daily paper. Hmm

SomeSunnySunday · 08/09/2014 14:28

I've had "normal" morning sickness, and I've had HG, twice. They don't compare, and when you're lying in the sofa wondering if you dare turn your head to check the time or whether that will trigger your 20th bout of vomiting today, I don't suppose being a princess is very much consolation (even with access to the best medical care - because no HG drugs are all that good).

phantomnamechanger · 08/09/2014 14:35

I have never been so ill as when I had hyperemesis. Even norovirus was not as bad as that.

I was being sick up to 20 times a day and feeling constantly nauseous, I ended up losing weight and being admitted to hospital as it was a hot hot summer and I could not even drink water, my pee was dark orange and tests showed I was using up all my reserves like someone who was starving. I was on a drip for a week. The sickness lasted (although did lessen in severity) till I was about 26 weeks!!! I could barely function as a SAHM to one toddler, let alone have coped working full time/being all smiles and on show! I have nothing but sympathies for Kate. How many of us told the entire world before we were 12 weeks pg? Poor woman.

EarthWindFire · 08/09/2014 14:40

Kate is a mum and she might even be a mumsnetter. I feel this thread should be deleted.

As nice as it maybe would be if she was... I doubt it very much!

PiperIsOrange · 08/09/2014 14:43

I had to be signed off work with HG with both pregnancies. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

I hope she gets the best care and hope she has an other wise heathy pregnancy

ReallyTired · 08/09/2014 14:45

Being royal doesn't stop someone having feelings. How do you know that Kate doesn't surf the web. Is Kate banned from joining Mumsnet? Unless she has done something to break the rules there is no reason why Kate could not join Mumsnet. (Unless she has joined NetMums!!!)

TurquoiseDress · 08/09/2014 14:45

Why do you doubt she's a MNetter?

It's the perfect place to come and be anonymous and interact with others who are going through the same experiences.

EarthWindFire · 08/09/2014 14:48

Being royal doesn't stop someone having feelings.

Where have I said she doesn't Hmm

Fairylea · 08/09/2014 14:49

I'm not a big fan of the royal family but I have a very big heart for Kate, William and Harry.

Here, have my first Biscuit and another Biscuit.

BetteronScreen · 08/09/2014 14:52

It's wonderful PR and that's all that matters.

NellysKnickers · 08/09/2014 14:56

HG is hideous. I've had it twice. I actually didn't think I would make it through the second time. Kate has all my sympathy.

AbbieHoffmansAfro · 08/09/2014 14:57

I sort of get what you are saying. Sometimes it seems that nowadays we save up all our compassion for 'celebrities' widely defined. There are always kind and informative discussions about the issues they have all over the media, but in real life people who have the same or greater hardships get little understanding or kindness, much less leeway or support.

A bit of that kind of compassion and help in real life would be great.

GimmeMySquash · 08/09/2014 14:59

Cake Thanks for admitting you were hasty in posting OP. Alas there is no hardhat for you, maybe the Tardis would help?

Petitgrain · 08/09/2014 15:02

HG is by far the worst illness I've suffered from, far worse than norovirus, quinsy and all th other shitty things I've had over the years. My second pregnancy with HG was so bad I had a mental breakdown and went directly from the pre-natal ward to the psychiatric ward for 3 weeks. My marriage never recovered from the strain it put us both under and we separated when the baby was 1.

allisgood1 · 08/09/2014 15:04

OP you are normally a lovely person I hope Confused

Clearly you have never experienced hyperemesis. How lucky you are Hmm

starfishmummy · 08/09/2014 15:17

Well its only been a few hours and yes I am fed up with it. Yes it is awful for HER but why do they have to tell us the details. Surely it is a private thing and the cancelled engagements can be explained away as unwell or something, I dont need to know every detail.

Suffered from severe morning sickness, not quite hg as wasn't hosptillised but was vomiting till there was blood. The nausea was the worst! Constant. Two months of it. Everyday I googled 'when will this end?' I sympathise with anyone who suffers this. I also couldn't stand the advice or anecdotes I got

Oh, I had this! I was sick when I ate cheese.

Or.

Ginger biscuits helps.

Nothing helps.
