to pity these children

Met a friend yesterday who is delighted that her 15 month old is now eating a variety of breakfast like honey loops, frosties, 'multigrain shapes, cocopops instead of weetabix and ready brek every second day which are boring!

I'm health and sugar conscious & love that my 10 month and 4 year old have a variety like weetabix porridge ready brekkie scrambled egg and on occasion homemade pancakes or sausages.

Honestly? I think there are bigger things to worry about. If the worst that a child has to contend with is sugary breakfast cereals then they are doing pretty well considering what happens to children in some families.

Sorry

spanky2 · 07/09/2014 09:50

I tried ds1 on weetabix when he was one and it made him vomit. I thought you were worried as they were being abused. In the big scheme of things cereal is not that bad compared to some of the sh*t children have to put up with from their parents.

JustAShopGirl · 07/09/2014 09:50

I would pity the poor kids in the world who aren't being fed at all... not those being encouraged to try different foods - however sugary - you need to look at breakfast as part of a whole diet.

p.s. you feed yours sausages occasionally - processed red meat and fat... heart attack/bowel cancer inducing - perhaps she pities you?

WooWooOwl · 07/09/2014 09:52

YANBU to think that ready brek and the like makes a better breakfast than coco pops, but these children really don't need your pity. Save it for children who don't get breakfast at all.

callamia · 07/09/2014 09:53

Good for you, but really - pity? These kids are probably well-loved and secure. I wouldn't/don't feed my child sugary food (and honestly, I think Ready Brek is unnecessary too), but I wouldn't pity any child who is fed other cereal for that sole reason. There are many other, more important, reasons to feel pity for a child. Leave your judging at home, and live and let live here.

HotPinkWeaselWearingLederhosen · 07/09/2014 09:55

I think you confused the feelings of pity and superiority a bit tbh.

insancerre · 07/09/2014 09:56

Smug mummy alert
What is there to pity?
Does it make you feel better about yourself to look down on others and feel superior

DaisyFlowerChain · 07/09/2014 09:58

I don't pity children being fed breakfast cereal by their parents. I save that for those somebody else has to feed as their parents don't.

cailindana · 07/09/2014 09:59

YABU.

Although it's sweet that you're so naive. You must have had a lovely life.

ssd · 07/09/2014 10:01

Op, if you pity kids like those its going to be a long life.

thornrose · 07/09/2014 10:02

Iggly · 07/09/2014 10:02

Is this a reverse?

My goodness OP a bit smug much?!

furcoatbigknickers · 07/09/2014 10:03

insancerre · 07/09/2014 10:06

Its the ops DC I feel pity for
They will never have the pleasure of slurping the chocolate milk from the bowl after eating a bowl of coco pops

BlackeyedSusan · 07/09/2014 10:06

sausages are worse.

3pigsinblanketsandasausagerole · 07/09/2014 10:08

HaroldLloyd · 07/09/2014 10:08

Good heavens. You need a delivery of some perspective urgently!

SoonToBeSix · 07/09/2014 10:09

Are you sure you are her friend?

pilates · 07/09/2014 10:10

YABVU and "pity" is over the top.

Have you woken up and decided you would like an argument?

walkonthewildside · 07/09/2014 10:12

mmmm coco pops

MrRabbitsUtopia · 07/09/2014 10:15

I've heard it all now.

I am sure you are practically perfect in every way.

What did social services say when you called them? You have called them, right?

ShadowStar · 07/09/2014 10:16

Pitying these children because they're fed sugary breakfast cereals is OTT.
