to pity these children

Met a friend yesterday who is delighted that her 15 month old is now eating a variety of breakfast like honey loops, frosties, 'multigrain shapes, cocopops instead of weetabix and ready brek every second day which are boring!

I'm health and sugar conscious & love that my 10 month and 4 year old have a variety like weetabix porridge ready brekkie scrambled egg and on occasion homemade pancakes or sausages.

I feel sorry for your children TBH. Weetabix is foul. Regurgitated cardboard for breakfast - no thanks.

AuntySib · 07/09/2014 10:19

Eggs for a 10 month old ??

feathermucker · 07/09/2014 10:20

Yes YABU

Pity?! Jeez, you sound gloaty tbh and it really doesn't paint you in the best light Wink

passmethewineplease · 07/09/2014 10:22

YABU. Save your pity for the children that actually need it.

You sound like a shit friend to.

PecanNut · 07/09/2014 10:23

I thought your pity would be for children in Iraq and Syria, and children abused like those in Rotherham, or a child like my son's friend who lost his Dad to cancer, and billions of others who have worse things in their lives than a sugary breakfast.

Panzee · 07/09/2014 10:23

Weetabix has sugar in it.

Panzee · 07/09/2014 10:25

As does Ready Brek.

ilovesooty · 07/09/2014 10:25

Do people really take this smug superior view of other people and claim to be friends with them?

Icimoi · 07/09/2014 10:26

Sausages? Even home made, if they're made properly they've got high fat content.

Oh, how I pity your children.

WhatsMyAgeAgain · 07/09/2014 10:27

Pathetic

Fanfeckintastic · 07/09/2014 10:28

Cringe

FranksWife · 07/09/2014 10:31

If you are health conscious then you are probably shocked at your friend.

When mine where little I tried to get them to eat healthily, but then the picky stage came along, then DD2 and then I went back to work. Other things then became more important.

For what it's worth, DD2 doesn't eat breakfast at all now. She has no appetite in the mornings but shes in the top sets at school so it can't be doing any harm.

HamishBamish · 07/09/2014 10:34

Well, it's not how I would choose to feed my children, but I don't think I would feel sorry for them either.

Like others have said, they are being fed and there are plenty of children in this country and others who aren't. I would probably reserve my sympathy for them tbh.

MassaAttack · 07/09/2014 10:34

What's wrong with eggs for a 10 month old, Aunty?

ScarlettlovesRhett · 07/09/2014 10:35

Lol

Do you still feel Sad OP, or just a bit Blush?

Poppet1974 · 07/09/2014 10:39

Goodness aren't you 'Smug Mother of the Year'!
Why don't you ring SS and tell them what a bad job your 'friend' is doing.

ShadowStar · 07/09/2014 10:39

Eggs are fine for a 10 month old if they're cooked through properly.

lilacclery · 07/09/2014 10:41

Wow I didn't expect this reaction! Obviously I'm in the minority here point taken

Cantbelievethisishappening · 07/09/2014 10:44

Grin @ MrRabbits

Laquitar · 07/09/2014 10:44

I am a bit dissapointed.

No 100s sad faces at the end of the paragraph?

MarkWrightsLonelyBraincell · 07/09/2014 10:44

Quick! Ring NSPCC, they can swoop in and remove the children to the land of quinoa and buckwheat pancakes. Coco Pops?!??!!?? Poor little mites Sad

HamishBamish · 07/09/2014 10:44

Do people really take this smug superior view of other people and claim to be friends with them?

Sadly I think a lot of people do. I find it quite rare to come across mothers who aren't critical of how their friends raise their children in one way or another. They might not voice it on an internet forum or even at all, but I'm guessing there are very few women (even Mumsnetters!) who can honestly say they have never judged another mother (friend or not) at some point or another. Motherhood seems to bring out a weird competitive streak in a lot of people.

ScarlettlovesRhett · 07/09/2014 10:45

Sorry op, cross post!

crazylady321 · 07/09/2014 10:45

Why pitty?
Im like you and like to offer a variety of breakfast items and yes sometimes sugary but its upto the parent, there are lots of far worse things going on in families that deserve pitty
