So they've only been back to school a few days and already there's letters requesting almost £100 by next week plus both DCs need a costume for next week. Talk about short notice. As usual no thought is given to parents who are busy and hard pressed for cash after the recent expense of kitting children out for the new school year. And no I am not anti school trip but this just takes the.....

It also got totally ridiculous last year with various charity days and costume days, although more notice was given but if this is a sign I things to come I might just have to be the moany one.

I was cross enough that my DD'd newsletter said there is a non uniform day next Friday and we have to pay a pound for the privilege. I have just spent a fortune on said uniform and now I have to pay a pound for her not to wear it. Hmm

£100 by next week would be impossible in this house. Not even possible by the end of the month.

YANBU!

I feel your pain DD2 goes to a fab school - but they are obsessed with dressing up. As well as the usual world sodding book day farce and Christmas show costumes we have had Egyptian day, Victorian day, WW2 Week(!) China day and now we have the joys of Tudor day coming up (am sure there were more) I for one will be relieved when she leaves in summer (now Year 6). I also ignore some of the "voluntary contribution" letters (not for trips but the random ones) as I am always forking out for costumes etc

This annoys me too. Themed costumes with barely a week to get stuff together, difficult if working.

Glad I am not the only one that feels like this SadOldGit. I am prepared for the world book day and the Christmas stuff but costumes after two days back at school is just too much.
I know teachers have to plan their lessons well in advance so I wish they would provide a list of all upcoming trips and costumes so parents can plan accordingly. Is this something that happens in other schools?
