Dees anyone else find it irritating on a thread (which has got a little heated) where the OP will say something along the lines of -

"thank you to those who were nice"

Ok now some posters will always be extremely harsh for no other reason than they love a good flaming but I still see constructive YABU comments that are helping the OP with a different perspective.

You post on AIBU to get opinions so aibu to find it annoying that some people will go out of their way to only thank people that agree with them?

You can disagree in a nice way.

cherrybombxo · 05/09/2014 19:08

Yes, I've noticed this. Even more annoying when the OP pointedly personally thanks the people who agreed with them, ignoring everyone else.

gincamparidryvermouth · 05/09/2014 19:09

But by "nice" do they necessarily mean "agreed with me completely," or could they mean "people who were honest and thoughtful but also civil and kind"?

If someone says "thank you to those who were nice" and then gives loads and loads of reasons why they don't think they were being unreasonable then yes, you are totally right; but I think that sometimes posters just want to acknowledge people who haven't given them a complete pasting, even if they think OP WBU.

ilovechristmas1 · 05/09/2014 19:10

agree

but some really should not post on AIBU as when people dont agree they get the huff and single out the ones that have agreed

SailorEverRose · 05/09/2014 19:12

You can disagree in a nice way.

Yeah .... that was kind of the point I made in my OP.

But by "nice" do they necessarily mean "agreed with me completely,"

This one ^

"people who were honest and thoughtful but also civil and kind''

That's why I say thanks.

SailorEverRose · 05/09/2014 19:14

Just to point out I'm aiming this at people that say thank you to the people that agreed with them.

Yes Y.A.B.U. I have seen it all now and trust me I've not lead a sheltered life. Some one moaning about manners and appreciation.
However on the flip side I think it's darn right rude not to thank people for their replies.

AnyoneForTARDIS · 05/09/2014 19:22

what Needaholiday says.

Maisyblue · 05/09/2014 19:26

I like people to be honest but that doesn't have to be in a rude or sarcastic way. The thing that annoys me more than anything though are the ones who either deliberately or not misconstrue the point you're making, I don't know if this is done on purpose or they're too lazy to read the full post, either way it's annoying because it makes you have to keep repeating yourself until they finally understand.

gincamparidryvermouth · 05/09/2014 19:53

I assumed you were talking specifically about AIBU, but that's not actually what you say in your post,so I was in the wrong there.

I agree with Needaholiday

slithytove · 05/09/2014 19:59

"Thanks to those who were nice even if they didn't agree" - great

"Thanks to those who were nice and fuck you if you didn't agree cos that's what nice means - annoyingly passive aggressive Grin

slithytove · 05/09/2014 19:59

italics fail :(

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 05/09/2014 20:37

What cherry said-I find that really irksome!Grin
