to think at 5 foot you can't date a guy 6 foot 4

I've always been a bit self conscious about my height but thankfully as I've grown older I've learned to feel more comfortable in my own skin.

the strange thing about being short is the sheer amount of tall guys that ask you out.

the tallest guy I've dated was 6 foot 2 and it was a great relationship but I had to always wear huge heels, run alongside him while he walked and he couldn't hear me talk without bending down.

there is a guy I know who is really nice but he is 6 foot 4. he doesn't see the problem but I feel self conscious just thinking about it. aibu?

I'm 5 ft .my dh is 6.1 .. It's never a problem.. I don't even see him as tall..why are you worried about your height ? A lot of women are that size .. I like being short ( would prefer longer legs but still) Wink

kormasutra · 05/09/2014 06:50

My db is 6ft 7 and my sil is 5ft 2.
Nobody has ever commented.
Let's face it, unless you're of a similar height, the taller partner is always going to seem tall.
My dd, 3, is tall for her age, me and her dad are decidedly average.
Her nursery teacher said on Wednesday "dd is getting really tall but then again you're tall too " I'm 5ft 5!!

SecretSpy · 05/09/2014 06:53

I'm five foot and a fag end.
DH is 6'4". tis not a problem I've always dated/fancied tall/ lanky men.

Some of my wedding photos were taken on the diagonal to get us both in thoughGrin

UsedToBeAPaxmanFan · 05/09/2014 07:08

My sister is 5', her dh is really short as well, about 5'8" I think. They look in proportion together, iyswim.

Their dc are absolutely tiny. Her dd1 is 11 but about the height of an 8 year old. I think she'll be lucky to make 5'. She hates being so small but I think genetically never stood a chance of being taller.

If you like the man, go for it.

thebestlaidplans · 05/09/2014 07:10

My mum's 4'11", my dad's 6'2". They've been married 45 years.
Crack on and enjoy!

WitchWay · 05/09/2014 07:15

Don't bother trying to have sex standing up in the shower - it won't work Grin

I'm 5'4, DH is 6'3", ex BFs ranging from 5'7" (much too short for me) to 6'5"

As someone said upthread, we are all the same height lying down Wink

Mnippy · 05/09/2014 07:17

The difference in walking paces used it really piss me off in my teens. Very early on I formulated a rule that if a boy doesn't slow down to talk to you or listen to you properly, and you are constantly cantering to keep up, then he ISN'T THAT INTO YOU. Frankly if Angelina Jolie was hopping beside them they would find themselves slowing down immediately.

I am 5"2, DH is around 6"4, and we look ridiculous but don't care. As someone said earlier, it's great for getting things down from shelves!

KraggleLego · 05/09/2014 07:21

I am 5"2 and Dh is 6"7. We get some funny looks, but we have no problems and barely notice the difference anymore. The photographer made DH kneel down for our pictures Grin

Mnippy · 05/09/2014 07:21

Aghhhh let me confirm that I am not 5 inches high... Haven't had my morning tea yet.

kungfupannda · 05/09/2014 07:25

I'm just under 5'4" and DP is 6'3" and I don't even notice it except when he puts stuff on top of the kitchen cupboards and I have to assemble a tower of tins to stand on....

Justagirlintheworld · 05/09/2014 07:33

I'm 5'1" and he's 6'5" and we've been together over 15 years. I don't particularly like tall men but they seem to like me! I rarely wear heels either but I am a fast walker. The only time I get annoyed with his height is when we go to a gig and we have to stand at the back so I can't see anything. I have to sneak to the front for a bit and find him after - it's far easier to find a tall person in a crowd!

PlacidApricots · 05/09/2014 07:38

My DM is 5 foot, and my SD is 6'3, as my DM said to me, everyone is the same size lying down!

However my DP is 5'11 and I am 5'5 and I wouldn't want him to be much taller really :)

Littlef00t · 05/09/2014 07:41

I'm 5'2 married to DH 6'7. He says there are three heights, taller, his height, or shorter than him so it doesn't matter that I'm a foot and a half shorter than him. We had to be creative with the wedding photos but apart from that and finding a car we can both drive there are no issues.

ithoughtofitfirst · 05/09/2014 07:47

I'm 5.4 and dh is 6.1 so not a ridiculous difference but still get comments about it.

I used to get hit on all the time by big guys (come to think of it) when i wasn't pregnant/breastfeeding/pram pushing/actually had a life and went places.

bruffin · 05/09/2014 08:00

Im 5'2 and DH is 6'2
Only problems are walking pace, DS is 6ft as well and they stride ahead of me.
and DH forgets i am short and often puts things out of my reach or forgets I cant see the back of the cupboard.

Stupidhead · 05/09/2014 08:02

Ex colleague was 4'11" and her bf was 6'7"! She never wore heels and her dress sense was a bit Disney jumper. The first time I saw him he was holding her hand and walking her into work. I was about to go over and bollock this strange guy for bringing a child into our workplace Smile

Male friend is 6'8" and looking for love but she has to be 5'9" or over as he has a bad back.

Of course you can Smile

ThomasLynn · 05/09/2014 08:13

If I didn't have DP I'd never be able to use the top shelf of my linen cupboard, the top of my kitchen cupboards, or the top shelf of my wardrobe.
He will ensure that whatever children we have will not be known as "gnome," and I will make sure they can fit comfortably through doorways.

The only time it's a problem is when I'm holding both my DD's hand and his hand. Then I get torn in half by DD going at dawdling-toddler speed and DP striding off into the distance. Usually only when he's hungry though, he's much better than he was.

Voodoobooboo · 05/09/2014 08:13

Another shortie here. I have recently realised that just about all of my ex boyfriends have been giants. Shortest was probably 6'1". I think if we date at our own height we'll get treated like munchkins on a night out.

SublimeCorpse · 05/09/2014 08:14

I'm 5ft and had a boyfriend who was 6'7"

We got some funny looks alright!

ohtheholidays · 05/09/2014 08:18

My husband is 8 inches taller than me and it works out fine.

I love that he's taller and bigger than me,he's very chivalrous with it.Which I love it's a complete turn around from the guy's I'd dated in the past.

Clairejessicamiller · 05/09/2014 09:39

I'm 5ft3 and used to date a guy who was 6ft6.5!!! Some of our friends would laugh about it as I didn't even come up to his chest but we didn't mind :) if anything I liked feeling petit so always went for tall guys. My husband now is just ove 6ft

MmeGuillotine · 05/09/2014 09:57

I'm 5'3" and have never been out with anyone shorter than 6' 3". My tallest boyfriend was 6' 7" and my husband is 6' 4". I haven't deliberately gravitated towards taller men, it just seems to happen. :)

The best thing about always having much taller boyfriends is that when we're standing, I'm a foot lower (unless I'm in massive platforms) and so they see me at my most becoming Instagram selfie angle - all big eyes, ONE firm chin etc. The next best thing is that they can get stuff off high shelves and take photos over people's heads at gigs.

The worst thing is that they PUT things on high shelves. ;)

ChunkyPickle · 05/09/2014 09:59

5' and 6'1 here - can't say that it's particularly a problem (except for the frequently mentioned practicalities of shower heights, which cupboard to put the plates in etc.)
