See below link to a local forum with an advert for a part-time nanny all round slave

Doesn't she sound lovely?

I think that is more a case of what she (or they!!) think they can afford not to pay tbh...

Just been told A = Ada!?!?

But Quintessentially that line of reasoning doesn't work for any other kind of service. I don't ask for a discount in M&S because i don't pay very much, or expect cab drivers to halve the fare for me because they almost certainly earn a lot more than I do. If you want a service, you pay a fair price for it.

As I said, I'm on a low income. I could have done with a great deal more childcare than one day a week (I work from home), and perhaps I could have afforded more childcare time if I'd paid shit wages, cash in hand, and not paid sick pay, etc etc. But that's no way to behave, so i paid the proper rate, and only employed a nanny for the time I could afford.

It is not a "way of reasoning" that I personally agree with, it was a reply to the poster who called the person posting the ad a "super rich bitch".

CinnabarRed · 05/09/2014 14:28

A=Ada. OK. Still don't know if it's good or bad!

ArcheryAnnie · 05/09/2014 14:45

Ok, fair enough, Q.

Backpedal as much as you want, change the goalposts.
You do not think very highly of this mother for outsourcing everything for 3 days. You judged this woman.
That's not very nice.

The problem is the generalisations being made. I do now see that the person placing that ad is called Kara so probably not part of a 2 dad family. (Unless it is 2 dads and 1 mum). However, we don't know what she does with her children the rest of the week, what her job is (presenter of 8-10 radio show 3 nights a week? Singer in musicals? Chef? Surgeon? Evening class teacher?) or anything beyond the fact that she needs a nanny to do after school care and the school run plus minimal housework 3 days a week; hasn't the foggiest about tax; and may have misjudged the market rate.

None of the stuff about not being comfortable with childcare and people mistreating nannies is relevant to this ad.

Apparently there are over 6000 responses to that posting now and I don't think these are all people desperate for the job. I therefore don't think there are many people placing similar ads and successfully hiring/exploiting their nannies.

I am sure people do exploit nannies and dodge employer's NI - they just tend not to advertise it so obviously.

Sorry, over 6000 views - not used to viewing figured

The poor woman is going to see this and feel even worse
