and long queue of traffic building up behind you, while some mortified shopper tries to unpack their shopping, return their trolly and strap in their kids, is beyond rude and insensitive?

Today the line of traffic was out on the road and causing a traffic jam because some arsehole couldn't just drive on and wait for another space to become free.

A wicked reminiscence here, from before the days of mobile phones.

Shopping centre and car park rammed full, mainly because it was a very wet Sunday in December. I finished my shopping and walked back to my car with a trolley load and noticed that a car was following me at walking pace. Fair enough, the woman at the wheel planned on taking my space.

As soon as I got there her passenger got out and I heard her say to the driver when they were going to meet “back here at your car” and off she goes as fast as she can through the pissing rain.

Some of my shopping was fragile and I had to arrange it carefully. And the driver lowered her window and said Could you hurry up please, there’s a queue behind me.

So I thought Sod you and said I’m not going, I’ve got more to do. And locked the car and went back to have a coffee while the driver went off to look for another space which was not going to be easy and would not be where her passenger planned on meeting her. Remember – no mobiles.

I wondered if Driver would have the nous to have Passenger paged – but she did not. The pity is that Driver was rude and Passenger got soaked unless they bumped into each other – but Andrew had the last laugh!

I have a bad thing to do in car parks....well, many bad things really.

mainly if it is busy, I like to nip into a space, then once everyone who saw you nip in has gone, you slap it into reverse and head back out, purely to straighten up of course ....if it is busy someone will often screech to a halt thinking you are leaving

you back out, ostentatiously straighten up and pull back in with a cheery wave

And the other bad thing I like to do is park my very teeny tiny car right at the back of the space right next to a very big people carrier or 4WD....and then watch as people think there is a space to pull into :D

ooops, I do this and never realised it was considered to be a twatish thing to do! I always pull in enough so other people can get past but put my indicator on so someone else doesn't take the space. I'm not impatient though and always happy to wait, I'm just glad to have found somewhere. This thread does explain why I sometimes have to wait for so long!

QuietNinjaTardis · 04/09/2014 19:57

Catsmamma! You're the teeny car that winds me up every time. I'm like "I found a space yay" and then get closer to see a teeny car and go "doh" ignores the fact that my tiny yaris next to a fecking range rover must be exactly the same Grin

Catsmamma Your cyber-brother un-tuts. Good for you!

She should have pulled over so people could get past but otherwise, why is waiting for a space being an arsehole?

And why was the other shopper, was it you btw, or were you just an observer? - mortified at doing what she needed to do to get finished? Did the other person get aggressive or was she just waiting with her indicator blinking?

Just do what you need to do.

And why on earth would anyone in a space go extra slowly and bugger about checking her phone if someone was just sitting with their indicator on to show that they were waiting and that everyone else should pass?

What kind of an arsehole does that?

It has been years since I've driven to a supermarket car park. One of the last times I had a woman who was entering, screaming at me: 'It's my right of way.' And I was thinking: 'It's a car park. And I'm trying to leave, you insane cunt.'

But she was boiling with rage and it was only 11am on a Saturday so I thought it was best to leave with my life.

If there was other spaces YANBU. We usually go shopping altogether (Dh drives, I don't) and park in a Parent and child space if available. If there's not one we go past and park in a normal space, I hate it when we're in a P and C space and someone just pulls up indicating when I'm trying to strap in my two and four yr old (two yr old is very resistant to being put in the car). I don't mind the ones who smile and wait politely so much, it's the ones who look at their watch, roll their eyes and then drive off in a rage that piss me off.
I'd never go more slowly just because someone was waiting though, that's just as wanky as sitting there putting pressure on someone to leave.

quiettardis....embrace the badness, come to the small dark side at the back of the parking space!!
