To ask how you fit exercise into your work day?

I work fairly standard hours 9 - 6, with an hour's commute each way. I do have the option of flexible hours, starting earlier or later. I need to start exercising for the good of my health, and wondered how other people working full time fit it in? Do you exercise at weekends?

I'm already knackered at the end of the day, shudder at the idea of dragging myself to the gym, but I know it will probably boost energy once I get into it.

Thoughts?

I exercise in my lunch hour every day - too knackered after work, sooooo not a morning person so getting up early to exercise is out of the question, can't be arsed at weekends. It also has the added benefit of stopping me going into town at lunch and spending a fortune!

I walk 2.5 miles to work and 2.5 miles home.

Bit of jogging for twenty minutes couple of times a week and two half hour sessions in my basement on my reebok step and video. Its the most time efficient way and I can do step when the DDs are home and DH is not.

Get a Davina work out DVD and the 10 minute pilates DVDs. Aim to do the Davina 30 min exercise 3 x in any one week (morning or evening) and on the other days do one or two ten min exercises from the pilates, or more if you feel up to it.

Maybe you could try out that high-intensity training that was on the Horizon programme a while ago. It boiled down to something like 3 minutes per week. You are supposed to give it all you have got (running, cycling, or whatever) for 3 very intensive 20-second bursts, 3 times a week.

Haven't tried it though... I'm too lazy (seriously!).

I have to build exercise into my day by cycling to work and to collect kids from school, then walking home. Plus once a week I do a dance class that I love, and a lunchtime Pilates class that is right by my work. On top of that I tend to walk to do my shopping a couple of times a week, and walk or take public transport with kids rather than car, etc.

I have a long commute, about an hour 40 door to door. So I exercise a bit at the start and end of each day:

Ballet workout DVD about 30 mins in the morning
Stationary bike ideally 30 mins usually less in the evening

I hate gyms and can't afford to go to dance classes any more so this is how I cope. Also have a long walk to and from the train so that helps.
But it means getting up very early and going to bed very early too. My kids are teens though so occasionally they will make dinner while I'm on the bike if I'm lucky

I get up at 5am. Not a popular solution, I'd imagine! But it works for me. That enables me to fit an hour of exercise (either running or some form of DVD, alternating days) before I get ready for work.

Up at five for an hour. Hat off to you.
