To strongly suggest you all consider the Isle of Mull for your family holiday next summer

Just back from our fortnight there and it's such a brilliant family holiday place that I feel the need to enthuse......

Lovely beaches, clean sea

Wildlife watching that even young children can join in with - and some fantastic sights. A White tailed Eagle landed about 50 ft from our car as we were driving to the ferry this morning...

The ferry - fab fun and v child friendly way to travel

Iona and Ulva - really lovely opportunities for a day trip that involves a ferry ride

Swimming pool - for wet days

Lots of options for family bike rides and walks

AND we've come home with tans too

I agree. I live in glasgow so have been relatively often. It's great. And so's Arran.

We would like to go to Arran too - and Coll and Tiree and Islay......trouble is we are such Mull addicts we can't bear to go anywhere else.....

Ah Mull is lovely, glad you had a great time! And there's a hut which sells amazing seafood where you get the ferry in Oban. They do things like hot smoked salmon sandwiches, perfect for the ferry trip to Mull.

Minion the smoked salmon sarnie I had from the hut next to the ferry port at Oban a few months ago was literally the most delicious thing I've ever eaten! I think about it daily.

Overall visitor numbers have declined over the last decade. So yes we like it emptyish but the island does need visitors to sustain it.

Inverlussa mussel farm? No but we went past a couple of times Grin. We went round a corner near there and saw a mother and baby otter running down the road a couple of years ago - one of many, many unforgettable Mull moments. We like to think they'd just been in for a few mussels.......

Yes yes yes ... we're just back from a two night stay and we soooo wished we'd had longer on Mull. Managed to cram in "Balamory" and Iona as well as rock pooling, walking, swimming and relaxing. Ferries were fab, beaches were beautiful, weather terrific and the prawn sandwich from the seafood hut simply delicious. Definitely going back.

Yep it's gorgeous. I've sober many holidays there and on Skye and other areas in the west and highlands. This year we went to cornwall which was SO busy and overcrowded in comparison. I'll be back to Scotland next year.

We used to go to mill regularly, staying at glen gore castle. Have abiding memories also of the chip but ties on the ferry overSmile

I agree, a wonderfil place, I have happy memories of childhood holidays there.

However- as I live in Scotland- a dreich rainy place nothing beats two weeks in a sun drenched place in the Med. Our summer holiday is precious and I need guaranteed weather.

one of the best places we ever stayed was in the Mull of Kintyre Lighthouse (Scottish National Trust) - absolutely brilliant views and wildlife but the drive down is a bit scary as it is very steep - but well worth it Smile

(Some very sheer drops though so might not be restful with small children!)

I love Mull! We went over to Iona and from there to Staffa, which is one of the most amazing places I've ever been. I can't describe how much the place touched me. It's been a long time since I was there actually, must take my kids there and let them experience it for themselves Grin

If it rains... Pre dc we would just decamp to the pub, I find holidays with dcs much harder to fill if the weather's bad.
