She took Iain's ice cream out of the freezer did she not?!

OP posts:
Smilesandpiles · 28/08/2014 20:13

It wouldn't be the first time they've used actors would it?

There's another thread somewhere all about it, including the CV of one of these "reality stars" and "contestants"...this bloke had been on almost everything.

LottieMumofWilfJenkins · 28/08/2014 20:14

Diana has left!

GoblinLittleOwl · 28/08/2014 20:14

Apparently she lost her sense of smell. Nothing at all to do with all the very nasty, uncharitable comments some people delight in making, anonymously. At least she knows how to behave.

LottieMumofWilfJenkins · 28/08/2014 20:17

I didnt say it was!!!

Icimoi · 28/08/2014 20:17

No, the one thing that does seem clear is that Diana was the one who took the stuff out of the freezer - no-one is denying that.

I don't see why people are seeing conspiracy theories in Sue's reference to 40 seconds. Obviously she's not suggesting it was exactly that, but it's her guesstimate. When you're estimating, you don't say "it was only 46 seconds", do you?

Animation · 28/08/2014 20:18

' Interesting that it's been announced that Diana has dropped out through ill health. I'm beginning to wonder if this programme is quite as nice as it seems to be.'

Yes I was thinking the same.

DoctorLawn · 28/08/2014 20:23

I was extolling the virtues of GBBO to my FIL the other day, who hates at the aggressiveness of shows like Masterchef. And now BBC1 has turned a gentle, relaxing programme into a tense drama Sad

Poor Diana.

Really shows the negative side of social media.

OwlCapone · 28/08/2014 20:24

Nothing at all to do with all the very nasty, uncharitable comments some people delight in making, anonymously.

Well, of course it wasn't. Mostly because the comments hadn't been made when she left months ago.

Gruntfuttock · 28/08/2014 20:29

She left before the filming of episode 5 and last night's programme was episode 4 so it's a bit daft to say she left because of the public reaction to last night's episode isn't it?

Tsk.

Icimoi · 28/08/2014 20:29

I heard somewhere that they film "An Extra Slice" on Sundays. Is that correct? If so, they're not going to refer to the Twitterstorm etc, unless they edit an extra extra slice in.

trufflehunterthebadger · 28/08/2014 20:38

Just heard on the news she's walked out of the show

Surely the whole series has already been filmed, like te apprentice ? That was my impression from a webchat on another site with a baker from an old series.

Ergo alaska-gate would have had nothing to do with her leaving

superstarheartbreaker · 28/08/2014 20:39

I feel sorry for Diana too. It was the judges fault for not vetting the contestants properly. I feel for Ian... It was not his fault BUT his reaction was childish.
Far better to tell Mary and Paul what really happened. If you can't take the heat then get out of the kitchen. Liked him but there it is.

ghostisonthecanvas · 28/08/2014 20:39

Well editing is their speciality. ....

ShadowStar · 28/08/2014 20:40

They finished filming GBBO in June.

Diana's departure has absolutely nothing to do with the fuss about the baked Alaska. I read on one of the news sites (can't link atm) that she'd had a fall which resulted in her losing her sense of taste and smell and that was why she left.

Although the timing of the announcement does make it seem at first glance that her departure has something to do with the baked Alaska. A cynical person could almost think that they've deliberately edited it to make her look like a pantomime villain in order to make a departure due to illness seem like something completely different.

ithoughtofitfirst · 28/08/2014 21:10

Maybe she has a time machine Grin god cut the woman some slack it was only 40 seconds/didn't do it/bad editing/she's elderly/"it's only cake"

This is my favourite thread since foul-mouthed toilet mum of scared-of-hand dryers toddler who clearly needed a cuppa

squoosh · 28/08/2014 21:11

I love GBBO as much as the next person but seriously, I think Iain appearing on bloody Newsnight tonight (!) to give his side of the story is going TOO far.

StetsonsAreCool · 28/08/2014 21:15

I commented very early on this thread, and while I feel awful for the abuse Diana has suffered online, I still believe that you don't mess with other people's work.

I'm embarrassed that I've fallen for the editing hype, and really disappointed in the BBC for the way this was edited and handled since.

If she had to quit the show after this episode, why did it take until tea time for that to come out? Instead they managed the story in a way that has allowed an old lady to undergo vile abuse all day. Inexcusable. The whole thing is leaving a very sour taste in my mouth, not least because I got so caught up in it myself to start with. Sad

AFewFallenLeaves · 28/08/2014 21:17

squoosh that IS ridiculous..

FrankelandFilly · 28/08/2014 21:19

Loving the new title HQ Grin

maddy68 · 28/08/2014 21:20

Tbf it would have been recorded a few weeks ago so sue certainly wouldn't have left because twitter today has been slating her

sanssoleil · 28/08/2014 21:21

Love Productions the independent film company commissioned TGGBO are also the film company that produced Benefits St......

sanssoleil · 28/08/2014 21:24

*GBBO Blush

TheHandbagOfGlory · 28/08/2014 21:31

I wondered how Iain knew that there was to be a backlash against Diana to telephone her to warn her about it, but it must be because he was on Extra Slice filmed on Sunday and would have seen the edited episode and the reaction to it?

bonbonpixie · 28/08/2014 21:42

Why don't they have blast freezers or at least a freezer each?? The cynic in me thinks is maybe to provoke just this kind of incident.

RonaldMcDonald · 28/08/2014 21:44

Just watched it

I believe Diana deliberately removed it because it was in 'her' freezer

She said immediately 'well you have your own freezer', how utterly unfeeling and rude

When she removed it she should have told him she had done so
Leaving it sitting out in that heat was shocking behaviour as was her response
I think he was remarkably restrained
