"Can we go to Pizza Express? Pizza Hut is a bit common and low quality"

Says Ds friend to me just now. Apparently, his family 'don't do' Pizza Hut.

Wibu not to take the ungrateful git anywhere for lunch now?

First time he's been to our house. So far, I've been told how small it is, asked how much dh earns, asked if this is a council house and asked why we didn't wait to have baby dd until we had a bigger house.

Ds is mortified.

I remember Pizza land! Loved their pizzas and they did lovely jugs of sangria.

murphys · 27/08/2014 14:37

I don't really think that it mattered where you were going to eat OP, he would most likely have had a problem with whatever place you picked. If you said McDonalds he probably say he preferred Burger King etc. We recently took some girls out for the day for dd's birthday (also 12) and this little madam that came along, just floored me with the things she came out with. ...

I told dd on no uncertain terms that she was never to invite that child to our house again. Dd was MORTIFIED at the things she came out with, and spend her entire birthday apologizing to me for inviting her. This child actually spoiled her whole day.

She is an only child (please note that I am not saying that all single children are this way) and she does as she pleases at home it would appear, tells her parents what she will eat and when, she even invited herself to sleep over at our house the night of the party, to which I very quickly said no to.

I think that was a first and last visit for that friend OP. I do wonder though, if he will be able to make any friends in his new school.... or if they wont be up to the standard required by his mother! Sad really...

Tadla · 27/08/2014 15:30

oh god! i can just imagine a child we know to say something like this... it would def be from his parents!

desertmum · 27/08/2014 17:08

she actually used the words 'little rented house' ? I am a bit gobsmacked but think I would have laughed in her face. I hate people who only want to be friends with you because they think you are rich, or can be useful to them.

BranchingOut · 27/08/2014 17:46

What the child says was awful, but clearly he has not been taught any better manners by his parents.

Therefore, no, he does not deserve to get beaten up in secondary school or receive other horrible peer-administered punishments. Would we say that about a child who had not been taught proper manners in other respects? Yes, snobbish behaviour pushes our own buttons but he deserves to be beaten up? Really?

He needs sensible, strong and kind adults to tell him straight why that is not acceptable and how it might make people feel. Someone needs to do it because he clearly isn't going to get it at home.

My own father was a raving snob and I remember ignorantly echoing a couple of things he had said to other people at the age of eleven or twelve. But by seeing people's reactions, reading books, looking at my mother's behaviour and learning a bit more about life I managed to realise that this was not appropriate.

BranchingOut · 27/08/2014 17:47

Oh and I would have taken him home too, but been even more explicit about exactly what he had said that had caused offence.

RiverTam · 27/08/2014 18:30

Is Pizza Hut allowed in Notting Hill? Isn't it something they'd get up a petition against? Wink

I have to admit I really liked the Pizza Express Toscana last time I went. It has fennel-flavoured sausagemeat on it. My friend, who was paying with vouchers, cheapskates that we are, was dubious but when she tasted a little bit was envious.

I only let her have a little bit though because it was so bloody small that I had to load up with dough balls.

You never go hungry at Pizza Hut and they don't lecture you about healthy eating while pushing oily bread rolls with lashings of garlic butter - no matter how nice they are.

People who try to pretend Pizza Express isn’t common are delusional 😂

Ponoka7 · 28/11/2019 16:57

@Amanduh, what does Common mean in this situation?

SmileyGiraffe · 28/11/2019 17:01

I know this is a zombie thread, but I am pretty confident that paedophiles frequent Pizza Express.

You can spot them by the lack of perspiration.

Take him home. I’d be mortified if someone said that to me!

Ponoka7 · 28/11/2019 17:29

Yes we know.

CorBlimeyGovenor · 28/11/2019 18:05

I would just say that you'll stay in for dinner instead and treat your son to pizza hut another time. That said, he's learned this behaviour from somewhere.

CorBlimeyGovenor · 28/11/2019 18:20

As an aside, I only eat at pizza hut and not pizza express because the latter only serves halal meat, whereas pizza hut doesn't. And I do not feel that religious beliefs should trump a) animal welfare issues and that b) religions should be respectful of all other religions including atheists. No one religion should have monopoly over blessing someone else's food. Off topic, I know.

JasonPollack · 28/11/2019 19:12

Ah, so you're a racist then @CorBlimeyGovenor or are there other animal welfare issues that you car about?

Tun55 · 28/11/2019 20:24

Tell him he is too young for pizza express - lol !!

Tun55 · 28/11/2019 20:27

Just realised this is a ZOMBIE thread!!

Pizza express bit is however very relevant and appropriate for current times. (Sorry, I cant get over the pizza express Woking thing. I’m super angry and pissed that PA thinks we are all so dumb)

Whyareyouallcallingmemum · 28/11/2019 21:19

What's a zombie thread mean?
