a month away from the vote thought it would be interesting to ask

( no bunfighting , derision or soundbites please. just yes or no and why. feel free to post more than once with different reasons. No links unless independent fact or opinion, nothing from the official campaigns)

I'm a YES

because Westminster's failed to protect the vunerable and the UK's me first politics have taken us down a particularly nasty path. An independent Scotland leans towards to left and can potentially choose a better route. And if a change happens in scotland then I think that that could inspire a change in the direction of politics in the rest of the UK.

Getting rid of WMD is what's best for Scotland, IMO.

Sallyingforth · 25/08/2014 21:52

The Chair has been useless! He should have stepped in time and again to stop the shouting over.

WhatTheFork · 25/08/2014 21:52

Team Scotland

squoosh · 25/08/2014 21:53

Salmond's peeps obviously told him to take it down a notch.

squoosh · 25/08/2014 21:53

Team Scotland is a bit cringe.

I hate all that 'Team' nonsense, very Heat magazine.

In an independent Scotland who will get Scottish citizenship? Is it those who currently live in Scotland and can vote in the referendum, regardless of place of birth, current citizenship etc. What about those born in Scotland and now living in other parts of the UK or abroad? Can they apply for Scottish citizenship? I find it odd the my Scottish family living in Europe cannot vote and yet the South African family renting their Scottish home can.

Currently all those born in Scotland are UK citizens and have British passports, will this remain after independence? if Scots can remain British citizens, can British citizens then apply for Scottish citizenship?

chubbyhez · 25/08/2014 21:54

You can see why David Cameron refuses to debate with him. I think he'd cry.

SeagullsAndSand · 25/08/2014 21:55

Do we know which side is more popular so far?

FannyFifer · 25/08/2014 21:55

For Salmonds entire political career he has always tried to do what's best for Scotland.

tilliebob · 25/08/2014 21:56

Ooh closing remarks. Wee Eck is behind his podium with his serious face on now. What a rammy this has been tonight. Neither are covered in glory. Sound bites, rhetoric and repeating/rehashing Confused

Apple- the White Paper says:

372. What will independence mean for citizenship in Scotland?

Our proposal is that on day one of independence, all British citizens who live in Scotland and all British citizens born in Scotland but residing elsewhere would automatically be considered Scottish citizens. Others may be able to apply for citizenship following independence through routes such as citizenship by descent or by naturalisation.

So you can be a citizen but you can't vote in the referendum. One of my smaller complaints.

Currently all those born in Scotland are UK citizens and have British passports, will this remain after independence? if Scots can remain British citizens, can British citizens then apply for Scottish citizenship?

I don't think the passport issue has been solved yet. Another complaint. I don't know if British passports would be declared invalid overnight in March 2016, it seems impractical but then we wouldn't be British citizens any more so....

TBH, I doubt this will make anyone's mind up. Most folk will just see yelping politicos. Some of the fervent yessers will cheer salmond, some of the fervent nos will cheer darling, and most of us will feel even more disgusted by the behaviour of our politicians.
