I've not been nominated so it's a moot point really but if I were nominated I point blank wouldn't do it

DH thinks I'm being unreasonable on this, am I?

OP posts:
Picturesinthefirelight · 22/08/2014 22:13

They have 'nominated' three other West End shows.

Waltermittythesequel · 22/08/2014 22:18

I think it's threads like this that give MN a bad name.

Honestly, it's raising awareness and money, why be so smug about not wanting to do it?!

Do it or don't. But don't be so patronising about those that participate.

I hate this weird snobbery on MN.

Ps: I haven't done it but I have donated to the Irish MND charity because of it!

pictish · 22/08/2014 22:19

"Wow...so many po faced people."
You're right...I just live for filming myself and putting it on facebook.

I've only actually watched about three. That was enough.

anniepanniepears · 22/08/2014 22:19

I was nominated tonight
done it straight away
it was a bit fun and I donated by text

Redglitter · 22/08/2014 22:20

How did it get changed to Mcmillan from ALS I can't work that out

fifi669 · 22/08/2014 22:24

My brother did it today, my stepdad also (he was told by my little brother he'd been nominated.... He hadn't) but now he's nominated me.

I'll be doing it tomorrow, my DS is 3 and is dying to do it (won't be ice water) so that he can nominate his granny :)

It's just a bit of fun to get a serious message across, where the harm? And yes, I will be donating.

Bakeoffcakes · 22/08/2014 22:29

All these people doing something to raise money and awareness for a killer disease- How very dare they!

JohnCusacksWife · 22/08/2014 22:29

pictish, don't think anyone's said they "live" to film themselves, did they? It's a harmless bit of fun which is raising a lot of money for deserving charities. Don't do it if you don't want to, thats absolutely your choice.....but the sneering at people who are happy to join in is just a bit off. Says more about the sneerers than those doing it.

mrska · 22/08/2014 22:29

It only works of you donate not just show off! my lovely lovely friend died aged 46 of this. It was awful and any help to raise money is ace in my book

Redglitter · 22/08/2014 22:34

I must admit I think it's been funny I like that it's something that's levelling all the participants whether it's a colleague family member Simon Cowell, the Beckhams etc everyone's joining in and ending up looking a bit daft.

It's giving people a laugh and raising tons of money it's a win win situation

Darkesteyes · 22/08/2014 22:41

I had my cut and colour yesterday. So i wont be doing it. But donating....no problem.

Except i cant donate by internet as i dont have a credit card.

DoJo · 22/08/2014 22:48

there will be idiots who go about throwing ice water over people without consent which is assault.

Is that actually happening? I have seen no evidence of it.

WeAreEternal · 22/08/2014 22:51

Anything that raises awareness and donations is good in my book, and the IBC is definitely doing both of those things.

ALS is a horrific disease, this challenge is making a huge difference.
So far it has raised over 24 million pounds for ALS research, how can anyone say that is a bad thing!

Worriedkat · 22/08/2014 22:53

Diseasesofthesheep I love him too

SolidGoldBrass · 22/08/2014 22:54

Oh it's complete wank. Along with most other 'charity' stuff which gets saddos and attention seekers to do something completely fucking pointless and then show off about it. Since when did giving money to a charity have to involve so much posturing?

Heyho111 · 22/08/2014 22:59

I did it, gave money, had a giggle whilst it was done to me with my family and then gave some friends a giggle on FB whilst raising awareness. What's so bad about that. Beats me.

Darkesteyes · 22/08/2014 22:59

No ones saying its a bad thing that money has been raised WeareEternal so can we dispense with the gaslighting please.

fifi669 · 22/08/2014 23:00

There is only one non consenting video I've seen..... Jeremy Clarkson was drenched by his kids :) I can live with that!

LongFingers · 22/08/2014 23:02

If it was boiling hot I may consider it, not to be published though.

I would not be giving money to MacMillan if I did do the challenge. What a disgrace to take away the publicity and funds from MMD.

LongFingers · 22/08/2014 23:09

This is where the money should be going www.mndassociation.org/get-involved/donations

Redglitter · 22/08/2014 23:12

Longfingers I'd wondered about that aspect why suddenly are people donating to Mcmillan who conveniently have the ice donation set up. Have they basically hijacked ALS idea?

LongFingers · 22/08/2014 23:15

Yes they have hijacked it Redglitter, not just the funds. Who heard of the ALS charity before this Ice Bucket challenge? MND is a small charity, and could have done very well out of this.

TheMightyMing · 22/08/2014 23:24

My 15 yo DS did it for me tonight- my ex husband died of MND as did a very much loved family friend. It's a most horrible way to die, and the charity sadly seems till now have been not that well supported.

So anything that raises awareness is only a good thing as far as I am concerned.

But if someone doesn't want to do it, then I'd say that was absolutely fine.

Darkesteyes · 22/08/2014 23:33

Im sorry to hear that Mighty. As ive said i am very happy to make a donation.
