I'm not sure if I'm being unreasonable or not. I work in an open plan office, and there is a lady that comes in once a fortnight. I'm 19 weeks pregnant. She's always making comments about how terrible late pregnancy is. Gives me something to look forward to obviously!

Most of the time I just smile, nod and ignore her. Today she went one further asking me really intimate questions about whether I had leaky boobs yet, wind etc. Now I'm quite a private person, it's unlikely I'd discuss this with my Mum, let alone a relative stranger.

So I shut her down, saying that I wasn't comfortable talking about it. I probably came across as snappy. To which another lady (in this open plan office) pointed out how terrible I'll be in labour if I can't talk about it now.

AIBU to think that it's not any of their business and talking about it and giving birth with medical professionals is a bit different to being expected to discuss my fanjo and boobs at work?!

YANBU. It's none of her business. As you say, smile nod & ignore the silly cow.

It's not that you CAN'T talk, it's that you WON'T talk! Tell them you prefer to discuss your intimate bodily functions with your doctor and your closest friends, not your colleagues.

You are absolutely right that it's completely different discussing your personal health issues with a health care professional. They are there to help you, they have a duty of care, they have a responsibility for confidentiality etc etc. Your horrible work colleagues on the other hand are just being nosy and enjoying teasing you.

Yanbu I guess they think now you are pregnant that you can all share experiences just smile nod and change the subject mumsnet is the place to over share

Discussing this kind of thing with colleagues is completely different to discussing them with a doctor or midwife.

If they carry on wait till one of them go to the loo then say "did you do a poo? How big was it?"
When they refuse to comment tell them that's how you've been feeling when they question you

Just say you don't feel like discussing your pregnancy in the workplace. No need to explain further than that!
Or just nod and smile, and then change the subject.

Ha ha ha ha InculKate, that is what I was thinking! I could end up knowing a lot more than I bargained for. It's almost worth it though. Almost.

Glad to hear that I'm not being totally unreasonable, I sometimes wonder if I'm over-sensitive, or other people are being knobs. Good to be aware it's not me this time.
