Out of all the names in the world, sister in law has chosen the same middle name for her son that I have.
I know I do not own the name, but come on???
Brother claims he didn't know but he did. Haven't made a scene and only told my mother I was slightly annoyed.
Am I being unreasonable??

No issue at all. And another one curious as to why the SIL gets the slating title when it's your brother's fault?

ds1 & his cousin have my father's name as a middle name , he died just before sil & I found out we were expecting. He would have been very flattered.

It's only a middle name, 2 of our DDs have the same middle name. I had decided that if I had a DD I would give her my late grandmothers name as a middle name. When I met DH he already had a DD with that middle name after his granny.

When we had a DD together she was given the same middle name as I had always planned. She loves having the same middle name as her big sis.

I disagree with everyone and think yanbu - I would be very annoyed too!

I think yanbu too.

it is not just a name. It is an identity. Within good friends or family, why would you encroach on someones elses identity?

What? Confused My DS2 has the same middle name as my brother's DS. It was our father's name. It is completely not a problem.

My brother and I both have a daughter who has Mary as a middle name. To be fair it's after our mum who died when we were little and in the whole time both girls have existed. 1 is 18 and 1 is 13.

It's never caused an issue and I'm neither of us own the name.

I don't think you should let this bother you. Smile

Perhaps she wants to start a family name tradition
