just seems a waste of time and money

time for us both to go and get a card and money wasted on them

or is the slippery slope of complacency?

we are going for a meal to celebtrate and mark the day

and I might get some flowers for the house/myself

We don't do them either or valentines it's all forced commercialism as long as neither of you want a card see no problem with it

OhDeanna · 18/08/2014 22:13

As long as you are marking the anniversary in some way then you're not becoming complacent.

We stopped bothering with anniversary cards a few years ago because of the waste of money. We just make sure we mark the day and do something nice - much more meaningful.

Happy anniversary!

Envy

I want a wedding anniversary car

Sounds extremely expensive Grin

ThatBloodyWoman · 18/08/2014 22:13

We don't.
In fact I think we've both forgotten our anniversary at least until later in the day the last couple of years.
We know we're married and its too close to Christmas to spend money on it.

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance · 18/08/2014 22:14

It's our anniversary on saturday and if I don't get a Bentley there'll trouble.

zeezeek · 18/08/2014 22:15

I've been married for nearly 25 years and don't think I've ever had one. Did make an effort to get him one and a nice present for the first few years...but it didn't last long!

glintwithpersperation · 18/08/2014 22:16

My ex only got me a moped last year. He's history.

ThatBloodyWoman · 18/08/2014 22:19

Actually I do tell a lie.
Once dh got 'us' a car (funnily enough) supposedly for our anniversary.
But I don't drive.....

GnomeDePlume · 18/08/2014 22:23

We get each other cards. However they are always ones with jokes. We have both been known to cross out birthday and write anniversary if the joke was particularly good!

fredfredgeorgejnr · 18/08/2014 22:24

Anniversary cards are insanely dumb, why would anyone do it? Celebrate it if you want to, I can understand that - although I can also understand more the irrelevance of the anniversary and it being important to care for your partner every day, or at least super regularly!

So no, don't fall into the trap of making a big deal out of an anniversary, and do something nice for DP some other time...

Staywithme · 18/08/2014 22:25

You should have reciprocated and bought him a chauffeur's hat. Grin

Our anniversary on Sat too and we've agreed not to get each other cards this year as we'll be on holiday. Want a bloody big cocktail instead! Who needs a card! Grin

YANBU IMO - I detest cards for people you see anyway. Just tell me you love me and prove it by deeds and I don't need a bit of card board to put on the mantle piece and line Hallmarks pockets.

However, DH would say that YABVU. He loves his cards. Sigh.

BBQSteak · 18/08/2014 22:29

oh!lol
if I got a new car that would be lovely

I should have waited until our wedding anniversary later this month (21 years) and asked my husband to present me with my new car then. Grin Grin Unfortunately, that would have meant I wouldn't have been able to get to work for the last month because my last car had become terminally sick a few weeks too early. Sad

We don't bother with anniversary cards. Sometimes we go out for a meal locally. Sometimes we have even forgotten totally until a few days afterwards. That is a standing joke in my family, as my parents never remembered their own anniversary until a card from my grandmother arrived in the post and reminded them. They have been married for 55 years now.

tallulahturtle · 18/08/2014 22:38

Its our anniversary tomorrow and i know what I've got :). At the risk if sounding cryptic I will tell you now, its a wheelbarrow. Horsey women will hopefully understand, but ive been mucking out and poo picking into the shittest wheelbarrow ever and now im getting a proper one, am beyond excited :). Eighth anniversary is a wheelbarrow isnt it?!

BBQSteak · 18/08/2014 22:40

ok I won't bother with cards then

but we are making the day so we are not total tightwads

Perfectlypurple · 18/08/2014 22:45

We do cards. I keep them and write the year on the back. I can look back at them in years to come. I also do the same with birthday and Christmas cards. When we go on holiday I always buy a post card and write a bit about the holiday on the back. It will be lovely to look back at these.

honeybeeridiculous · 18/08/2014 22:49

DH and I give each other the same anniversary and xmas cards every year, the cards must be 12+ years old now, just go back in the drawer every year.
For some reason we buy a new birthday card every year tho Hmm

BBQSteak · 18/08/2014 22:50

aw that's quite sweet purple

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance · 18/08/2014 22:51

I know what I'm getting too. I've just grown my nails long enough to varnish - getting over an operation so doing v little has made them all lovely. I only own 1 nail varnish so we had a happy time toddling through Boots this evening, with me picking nail colours like a child in a sweet shop for him to buy and wrap up for me. GrinGrin
I'm ridiculously excited.
We've been married 23 years on Saturday.

morethanpotatoprints · 18/08/2014 22:57

We don't even go out for our Anniversary anymore.
Dh is usually working on the day, I don't see it as complacency as we spend so much time together all year, anyway.
We love each other to bits and soon will be 22 years married and 26 together. We used to get each other a card, not being able to afford the car Grin
If you say something nice to each other every day, cherish each other you don't always need to mark the event with a cost.
