I have just seen a post on facebook that one of my friends has commented on. It is a picture of a child with the back of his head blown off. People are being urged to comment Amen.

WTF is that all about. Why on earth is it helpful to see that. How disrespectful to him and his familu. And typing amen, sounds like you was agreeing with it surely.

Is there more context to this? Do they say where this picture was taken or any current situation it relates to? And do they give any warning that there is a picture some might find upsetting?

Summerblaze · 18/08/2014 16:15

No nothing. The only thing it says is to not scroll down without saying amen. The picture is just right there on my news feed with no disclaimer at all.

Very upsetting.

I am fucking sick and tired of seeing posts of neglected dogs, sick children and other miserable stuff. Yes I know it goes on in the world but these posts are shown without warning and a lot of them contain graphic content.

Why will a "like" help anything? In fact I think I will delete Facebook, its getting ridiculous

ithoughtofitfirst · 18/08/2014 16:22

What the fuck is wrong with people? Glad I'm not on FB when I hear shit like this.

meddie · 18/08/2014 16:24

Its farming for likes. The sick kids in the photos images have been stolen and these groups fish for as many likes as they can get then sell the facebook page onto advertisers. I never like or comment. The ones that also ask you to name something without an A or E etc in it are the same thing

EmmanuelWoganberry · 18/08/2014 16:27

I never see any of these nasty images on my FB, it surprises me how often a post like this pops up on MN. It makes no sense at all, what exactly do they hope to achieve other than upsetting their friends. There are better ways to spread awareness or help people surely. Must be yet another FB attention seeking exercise.

Summerblaze · 18/08/2014 16:50

I never like them (which seems bizarre anyway) but am surprised at how many of my friends do.

I have seen a few before but this one was horrific. My DD is only 10 and not on facebook but the age limit is 13 and this was really not something anyone under 18 should be seeing.

OP posts:
CombineBananaFister · 18/08/2014 16:54

Have not experienced this but it sounds fecking awful.
I always find it bizarre anyway when someone posts something sad and personal and you're supposed to 'like' it - it doesn't make sense surely? They don't like what's happened to them so why would me liking it make them feel better, just seems arse about tit if you ask me. Am too old for this facebook shit.

YouTheCat · 18/08/2014 16:58

Report it to facebook.

I'd hide any of your friends who regularly and misguidedly post this kind of bollocks.

If any of that shite turns up on my newsfeed people will start getting unfriended.

TakeMeUpTheNorthMountain · 18/08/2014 17:13

I've blocked people for similar. Grotesque looking injuries, dead children, often photo shopped, but always vile.asking you to click like and say amen or share it and some doctor will fix the injuries

My sister is the worst for it. I've hidden her and told her why. I asked her what kind of doctor would refuse to help a dying baby until the picture is liked one million times but she can't answer that.

3catsnokids · 18/08/2014 17:15

I've just seen that on my FB newsfeed due to a friend commenting on it and it is awful. The whole of the back of the child's head is missing.

I know it's awful that this has happened, and I am so sorry that it has, but I don't see what good it will do to put such a picture on FB as all it will do is upset a lot of people.

meddie · 18/08/2014 17:50

It isnt there to do any good or raise awareness. its there to farm 'Likes' so scammers can make money off it

ICanSeeTheSun · 18/08/2014 17:54

I have slowly unfriended people on my FB who have shared this pics.

Flowerfae · 18/08/2014 18:02

I don't think reporting it works, I reported similar and got a mail back saying that it wasn't anything that was considered 'inappropriate', the image was similar to what the OP said about, I just hide the image now and if someone keeps doing it I unfriend them.

Tiswineoclocksomewhere · 18/08/2014 19:35

It popped up on my feed too and is just horrible. Can't see any rhyme of reason why anyone would share or comment the ridiculous "Amen" that is asked of them. I blocked it so I won't see it if any other fuckwits thinly disguised as friends share/comment on it and have also reported it.

I did however go out of my way to look at Botham's beef so I suppose I can't really claim the social networking moral high ground Blush
