ds age 5 just now eating Sunday dinner

dh calls me over and says he looks a bit funny

he's choking silently on his dinner

I flip him upside down and thump hard, food comes out and his blue cheeks turn pink, he's crying and breathing again

lots of chocolate for pudding and now he's running around fine .

please learn first aid for children

I had similar with ds1 who inhaled Calpol instead of swallowing. Fortunately I'd just been to a weaning workshop which covered choking so I turned him upside down and smacked his back it shot out and he started breathing again.

It was six years ago and I still remember how frightening it was.

I just did infant & child first aid, and there was nothing about turning them upside down... Where does that come from?

My son is starting his 2nd year at college in sept and all students have to do 1st aid course costing £15 I think its a fab idea
