to think the BBC should show less programms of people making cakes, sweets and deserts

Just looking at the iplayer and 4 of the top 20 programs are just about making junk food.

With 70% of adults over weight I don't think the state broadcaster needs to encourage more people to eat junk.

I think the tax payers money should go towards making guilt free treats or meals with lots of beg.

It's a sad reflection on the world when nobody wants to watch people make the sugar free jelly and stewed rhubarb beloved of weight watchers alright.

sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 17/08/2014 09:33

Lots of beg?

tmhop · 17/08/2014 09:34

Isn't the point of the BBC not to chase ratings?

HermioneWeasley · 17/08/2014 09:34

Yawn

Yes, it's the BBC's fault obesity rates are on the rise - clear cause and effect.

Veg, autocorrect

Since when was home-made cake junk food?

MarkWrightsLonelyBraincell · 17/08/2014 09:36

Yes yes, GBBO is totally responsible for all the obesity and cancer and heart disease in the country right now. Mary Berry should be ashamed.

SevenZarkSeven · 17/08/2014 09:37

Yabu

SevenZarkSeven · 17/08/2014 09:39

Guilt free treats sounds like a phrase used by the dieting industry

They have far more to answer for than a prog showing how to make your own muffins

The bbc should absolutely not be talking about guilt free treats under any circumstances

Sirzy · 17/08/2014 09:39

I would rather eat a slice of proper homemade cake than a lot of the so called healthy stuff sold in supermarkets. It's probably better for you than most of that too.

The odd bit of home made cake in a balanced diet isn't going to do any harm.

Kytti · 17/08/2014 09:40

Does eating junk food make you fat? Oh no! I didn't realise! I watched these programmes and thought we should all live on cake and biscuits. Drat, that must be where I'm going wrong, I'm suing!

InSummer · 17/08/2014 09:40

Yabu, sorry. Look at the size of Mary Berry. It's hardly made her overweight!

Tinkerball · 17/08/2014 09:41

Just when you say what some people on MN get their knickers in a twist about can't possibly get any more ridiculous along comes someone like yourself OP to prove me wrong.

UptobedNOW · 17/08/2014 09:44

This seems an appropriate time to issue my first ever Biscuit

Tinkerball · 17/08/2014 09:44

And as for "guilt free treats" YABU for saying that, why should such a negative pointless and destructive emotion like guilt be associated with eating, god no wonder so many problem get screwed up. The word you need to learn is balance.

Tinkerball · 17/08/2014 09:44

People not problem!

ArgyMargy · 17/08/2014 09:49

YABU and silly. And it's fewer programmes, not less programms.

CombineBananaFister · 17/08/2014 09:49

Actually, I think the BBC should just stop showing so much crap in general - not just sweet related. Thank god for Sky Atlantic.
Love Mary Berry though so for that alone YABU

MyFairyKing · 17/08/2014 09:51

"Guilt free treats sounds like a phrase used by the dieting industry."

Yep, I hate this and also the "ooohh I've been a bit naughty today and had a cheeky slice of cake". Fuck the fuck off! And I say this as someone who is losing weight but hasn't told anyone in RL because I hate these conversations.

SlowRedCar · 17/08/2014 09:52

isn't that the truth

CombineBananaFister · 17/08/2014 09:52

off topic Did anyone see the bit last week where some fellow said he wasn't using homemade fondant - it was Shock shop bought.
In one polite facial expression she managed convey utter disgust- like he'd shat in her lap not just made a fondant faux-pas Grin

SecretNutellaFix · 17/08/2014 09:52

YABU and a bit of a tit to be honest.

People watch these things because they like them. When Dr Who comes on it will rocket to the top of the list.

They aren't always on every week and peoples viewing habits change according to what is actually being broadcast.

Lonecatwithkitten · 17/08/2014 09:53

Mary Berry's mantra is a small piece of something delicious you cooked yourself where you know exactly what is in it is best.
If you watch carefully she always tries a small amount. I suspect she s the queen of portion control.

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 17/08/2014 09:53

So we cannot even enjoy a programme about baking without some guilt to go along with it? Hmm

God forbid. Maybe you just install a chip in the televisions of fat people - keep them from watching anything with unhealthy food and lack of exercise. No more Royale Family - too much lounging about - not healthy to watch them, bad examples. No more GBBO - too much food with high sugar content. No more Coronation Street or Emmerdale - after all, quite a few scenes are in a pub, which serves booze, which we all know has empty calories and contributes to weight gain.

FFS. GBBO and other programmes like that are just viewing entertainment, not a lifestyle choice.

Are you in favour of not having ANYTHING unhealthy or "not good for you" on the television? So no programmes with booze, smoking, domestic violence, murder, crime of any sort... you know, in case it gives people ideas? Or is it just fat people that shouldn't be watching.....

Pico2 · 17/08/2014 09:54

YABU to think that it's the homemade cakes etc that are causing the obesity crisis. It's 5 doughnuts for £1, Dominos etc that are responsible - cheap unhealthy food. H
