AIBU to have expected a lot more sex in Jilly Cooper's Jump?

I spent far too long in my teens reading Jilly Cooper books and of course, relished learning all sorts of interesting things from the sex scenes. I'm halfway through Jump (I borrowed it on holiday) and there's only been one very short sex scene so far. What's happened? Has she got a bit too old and decided she can't write them any more? So disappointing. I was looking forward to some jolly old romps.

I'm aware the book is very old now, but just didn't get round to reading it when it was first out.

Feeling disappointed?

It just doesn't seem the same as the others I've read. A bit disappointed, but not just for the lack of steamy romps. I might have to reread some old ones Smile

I've never read any of Jilly Cooper's books Blush I realise that I may be struck down for this as JC seems to be rather popular on MN...

Out of interest Farewellfigure which are the books with the jolliest romps?

Thinking of taking a few on holiday.

Ooh the early ones are really sweet (if a bit old-fashioned now) like Imogen, Harriet etc, but they're very short. Not much to get your teeth into. Then the Rutshire chronicles like Riders, Rivals, Polo and The Man who made husbands jealous are fab. Maybe start with Riders as it's the first and it'll introduce you to Rupert Campbell Black. Heck, they're all total tosh really, but lovely holiday reading!

'the man who made husband jealous' was very good from my distant memory, hmm ... must re-read it :)

Hmm sounds like the Rutshire chronicles will be right up my street will be fab for holiday reading thanks.

I wiki'd RCB and Cooper says he is based on Andrew Parker Bowles??! Wowzers I had rather a different picture in my head of how he would look… Must sort this out before I get the books.

farewellfigure · 14/08/2014 15:12

Oh dear god no. I've just googled him and ruined every thought of RCB I ever had. I suppose Andrew Parker Bowles was probably OK in his youth!

Oh no - should have kept my mouth shut - sorry! I picture RCB as tall & broad shouldered with wavy black hair and piercing green eyes and that is how it shall remain (until I read the books). Banish all thoughts of APB!

I always tried to imagine which actor I would cast in the role, but never quite managed it. Jilly writes him as so charismatic and sexy I don't think any living male could actually fill his lovely shiny riding boots.

No - Rupe's blonde and blue eyed - very clearly stated in the books. I might have just read them all again Grin

Jump wasn't up to par. IMHO. Sad

farewellfigure · 14/08/2014 16:25

Ah thank you for that shake. I feel better that's it's not just me. I was feeling really disheartened that I wasn't enjoying it as much. I read a few reviews that said she was off form. I was feeling really disloyal!
