about car seats and wee

We are in the middle of potty training DS1.

So far we haven't had too many car journeys since starting potty training. today DH & I were discussing a planned day out, and the question of what to do with DS1 on the journey came up.

I'm all for encouraging him to have a wee on the potty before we leave, put him in pants, then sit him on a towel while in the car seat in case there's an accident.

DH wants him in pull-ups in the car because "if one drop of wee gets on it then we'll have to throw the car seat out"

AIBU to think that this is a ridiculous overreaction to a bit of wee?

DS1 has been car sick before.

When we got home, DH removed the car seat cover and washed it.

I don't quite understand why wee is so different. I know DH was complaining about it being a PITA to get the cover off and on, but even so....

YANBU. Putting him in a pull up will set him back, esp if you feel tempted to tell him to use it rather than make an inconvenient potty stop.

None of mine ever wet in the car, even DC3 who was late to be dry and took about 3 weeks (older 2 were sry after a couple of days).

Less germs in wee than sick - none in wee, in fact, unless he has an infection... washes out as others say. Your dh is being a drama llama.

DS took a year to train and still is not reliable - especially in the car. We stop frequently, MAKE him go for a wee even though he'll protest he doesn't need one (he always does) and incidentally, at 5, is still not even close to starting to be dry at night. The bedmats cut to size work well (the pampers one have peel off adhesive on them too so they stay put). We still use pull ups on both of ours when we drive up north to relatives because we do it as a night drive and they sleep. YOur DH is being OTT about "a drop of wee". We wash the car seat covers all the time. Ours just slip back on easily.
