Okay so trying to be a bit healthier so I made Spag Bol tonight with quorn mince..

It literally tastes nothing like mince beef at all! I wasn't expecting it to be like for like, obviously but jeeesus it was rank. Unless of course it's just my cooking..

not sure why I did your name in capitals, sorry!

jay55 · 10/08/2014 22:56

Quorn mince is like rubbed off glue.

Sausages are great though.

MorphineDreams · 10/08/2014 22:59

I like quorn mince.

I had the quorn hot dogs a few weeks ago. I couldn't decide if I liked them or not.

gamerchick · 10/08/2014 23:01

It gives me bad bellys and mega squits. I had to chuck loads in the bin after my drive to 'be more healthy' if that's healthy I'll stuck to meat thanks Hmm

RJnomore · 10/08/2014 23:04

It's vile and it's not a real food.

I was veggie for years and I take exception to veggie food that's discussed as faux meat. It is all unutterably vile.

There's a whole world of wonderful wonderful veggie recipes that don't pretend to be anything else though.

RiverTam · 10/08/2014 23:07

I used canned puy lentils to make veggie spag bol.

MorrisZapp · 10/08/2014 23:11

I really like quorn. The cocktail sausages are ace, my sausage loving ds eats them happily.

He also loves the 'chicken nuggets', as do I.

I find it much more satisfying and chewy than any vegetable only dish.

LizzieMint · 10/08/2014 23:11

I love quorn mince! Doesn't taste like meat though, but I much prefer it to beef mince.
Sainsburys meat-free meatballs however, are very meaty tasting. My (veggie) other half isn't very keen because they are too 'realistic'. I'm slightly addicted to them...

Beavie · 10/08/2014 23:18

I've been a vegetarian for over 20 years and IMO quorn mince is rank.

However, the chicken pieces are really nice. I put them in a stir fry and gave it to ex dp and he didn't realise it wasn't chicken until I told him.

The sausages used to be ming but they seem to be better these days.

MorphineDreams · 10/08/2014 23:21

ASDA's meat free meatballs (lol) are vile. I only bought them because they were cheap.

Attheendof · 10/08/2014 23:23

Love quorn. Love meat substitutes in general. I know that's unpopular with many, but I didn't give up meat because of the taste, but the cruelty.

maninawomansworld · 11/08/2014 00:06

A friend of DC's made us quorum chilli years ago. I had no idea what it was but I knew it wasn't anything I wanted to eat ever again. Only later I found out it was quorn. It just tasted of cardboardy, chewy nothingness.
I am biased though, a dedicated carnivore (being a cattle farmer and all).
My dsis is veggie and she hates quorn too, says it's for lazy veggies who can't be bothered to put any effort in (her words not mine, don't flame me). I have to say she's cooked veggie food for me loads of times and it's always fantastic , she doesn't attempt to cook meat based meals with a meat substitute, she just cooks meals designed around the veg if that makes sense.

maninawomansworld · 11/08/2014 00:07

I meant a friend of dw's, not DC's

LoveIsAnOpenDoor · 11/08/2014 00:07

The chicken tastes nothing like chicken. I like the mince, meatballs etc though.

Andallmyhopeisgone · 11/08/2014 00:19

I'm veggie and don't like quorn because to me it tastes meaty. Not tried all versions of it obvs.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 11/08/2014 00:54

Yup 'cause meat eaters never cook something a bit lazy.

itsbetterthanabox · 11/08/2014 01:23

It isn't supposed to taste of meat they call it the names of meat so that people know what dishes to use it in. It tastes nicer that yucky meat.
