If you want a tummy to rub then you need to get a dog. My dog goes into a sort of tantric coma when I rub her belly!

SnookyPooky · 08/08/2014 18:27

A couple of ours love having their tummies stroked, one in particular lets me brush it and put my face right in and kiss it. He rocks.

Wigglykitten · 08/08/2014 18:52

My tabby loves having his tummy tickled, he's like a big cuddly teddy bear.

Sorry cat showing its tummy. Unless it's a dog in a former life ITS A TRAP. You likely to lose an arm, finger, hand.....

ProfYaffle · 08/08/2014 19:01

Wiggly - Is that an enormous cat or a tiny sofa?!

StatisticallyChallenged · 08/08/2014 19:02

My ginger maine coon loves his tummy being rubbed. He's amazingly friendly, and will literally roll around on the floor until you rub his tummy. He will sometimes grab your hand but only ever with his front paws in a sort of hug.

He's a big soppy lump though, and I've known plenty of others who will do the wrist evisceration with the back legs trick.

juneybean · 08/08/2014 19:02

OMG these cats! Love a furry tummy!

My cat sometimes lets me hold his paw if we're papoosing (oh yes)

hackmum · 08/08/2014 19:09

Our cats (both dead now, sadly) were like this: they'd like on their backs, all invitingly, and then you'd tickle your tummy, and they'd grab you with their paws, claws extended and bite your hands while you were completely incapable of getting them out of the way. I used to quite enjoy it - a peculiar pain/pleasure thing.

greeneggsandjam · 08/08/2014 19:10

Mine runs up and throws herself at your feet to show her stomach first thing in the morning. generally wants her tummy rubbed a few times then bites which really winds me up. Why can they just roll over and walk away?

If its later in the day she will make sure she has your eye contact then throw her head sideways on the floor followed by the rest of her body. If she realises she has lost my eye contact she waits till she has it again before she repeats the process.

She makes eye contact, eyes the kitchen cupboard, nods at it, then licks her lips (dry treats are in there).

However, she isn't clever enough to get (after well over a year) that I DO NOT want her in my bedroom and when I shout each time she goes for the carpet its because I want her to stop it!

Cornettoninja · 08/08/2014 19:12

I've got one that actively loves belly rubs - in fact when she's lolled across my lap she expects a full body massage (even in the toes), she's a bit mixed up though because any other time she'll shred you for so much as looking at her at the wrong time. I love listening to dp bargaining with her to get past her on the stairs Grin

My soft as shit cat, whom I'm pretty sure was a hooker in a previous existence given how over friendly she is, does however have her boundary fully set at the belly. Touch it and feel her enamel. She does let me massage them paws though.

Bloody love paws. Puppies with feet to big are another weakness of mine - lolloping balls of gangly stupid awwww

Lally112 · 08/08/2014 19:12

One of mine would take your hand off for that.

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 08/08/2014 19:15

Well, you're all obviously doing something wrong - all the cats I've ever owned (and I've had a fair few) have absolutely LOVED having their tummies tickled. Maybe they just don't love you enough HmmGrin

toomuchtooold · 08/08/2014 19:41

If a cat rolls over, you're being given the honour of being allowed to look at its tummy. LOOK AT IT. DON'T TOUCH. TOUCH THE NECK, STUPID HUMAN.

Voodoobooboo · 08/08/2014 20:42

If a cat shows your their tummy they want to rip your hand off and are trying to find a way to get you to let them without a fight.
Alternatively they are playing cute as you have steak and they want a bit. A really really big bit.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 08/08/2014 20:46

Oh speaking of food, I gave mine a bit of salmon yesterday. I dropped it to her because I didn't one to get cat hair on my hands. Anyway, she moved as I dropped it and it ended up in the middle of her back. Watching her try to get it was one of the funniest things I'd ever seen. And it meant she stopped patting my leg and mewing at me for, ooh, about three minutes (she's a bit needy!).

YouTheCat · 08/08/2014 21:01

Don't trust them.

Vicious little balls of floof.

ShowMeYourTARDIS · 08/08/2014 21:27

Depends on the cat... I won't do it with cats I don't know. I volunteer at a cat rescue, and most of the kittens love it when I rub their bellies! That's the only way I can one of them to purr for me, lol. Then she falls asleep, belly up, on my lap.

So unless you KNOW it likes belly rubs, DON'T! Some of the sneaky bastards like to trick you. Once they've got you in their grasp, they attack.

FamiliesShareGerms · 08/08/2014 21:33

OP, if I owned that little grey kitten in your gif I would never leave the house and never get bored of playing with it...

Neither of one like their tummies or tails stroked. Always under the ear or chin for them

FamiliesShareGerms · 08/08/2014 21:34

ours

JudysPriest · 08/08/2014 22:53

Chin only. Belly is sure death.

neverputasockinatoaster · 08/08/2014 23:44

My cat, now long since dead, used to lie with her tummy exposed, hoping to fool some idiot into tickling her. As soon as anyone did she would seize the hand with her front paws and bite the fingers while eviscerating the wrist. She had a string grip.
Do not be fooled by the fluffy tummy. It is a trap!

partialderivative · 08/08/2014 23:59

Tee hee!

How many of you are in denial that the reason your cat loves his tummy rubbed is because he is shagging your hand?

Isn't that what happens when cats mate?

FuckTheMagicDragon · 09/08/2014 00:18

One of mine will have your hand off.

With the other we get plaintive and desperate 'Timmyscdiwn the well!' meiows until we follow her out to the landing where she throws herself down in the akward spot, expecting (and getting) tummy tickles. She also like to stretch out ( to 3 times her length ( like a concertina ) in front of the fire and will give the come hither look until one of us caves in.

OTheHugeManatee · 09/08/2014 07:13

Boy cat is just showing you the tummy and will bite and rend if you go for the tickle. Girl cat, though, walks round you three times miaowing then flips herself upside down on your lap and demands BOTH neck scratches AND tummy tickles AT THE SAME TIME. There is a particular combination of these that makes her dribble.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 09/08/2014 07:58

Kitty body language:

• The greeting – when the cat walks towards you with its tail up, it means it is saying hello
• The sign of trust – when the cat rolls on its back exposing its stomach it is showing it trusts you rather than wanting its belly rubbed.
• The leg rub – when the cats rubs its head and body against your legs it is saying you smell strange and is trying to mark you with its scent
• Flattened ears – when the cat flattens its ears it is frightened and needs somewhere to hide
• Licking of lips – while after eating this can just be it is cleaning itself, at other times it can be a sign of nausea or stress
• The slow blink – the cat will slowly close and open its eyes, turning its head to one side, meaning it is relaxed and is not feeling threatened
