I'm at the park. A boy of 11-12 has just lit a cigarette which was passed to him by a child of 5-6.

It's horrible to watch I'd be gutted if that was ds.

I should mind my own business right?

It's a difficult one. I remember being about the same age, maybe a bit older, and a lady saying to me how she was going through hell stopping smoking and how much she wished she had never started. I still carried on though. Still smoking now, over 20 years later, on and off. Obviously I wish I had never started.

Bloody hell, it appears that one of their mothers is in the car in the car park maybe 15 feet away.

Poor kids! They've got no chance really have they?

I agree - it's not as if he won't know it's illegal, dangerous and expensive so saying something is unlikely to have any effect.

Perhaps you feel that you are condoning the smoking if you don't say something though? Perhaps you could just tell him you that it's heartbreaking to see him smoking. It's caring but not judgmental or interfering.

x-posted - the mum is nearby. Shock

Really?

Pyjamaramadrama · 08/08/2014 13:15

They've gone now, I didn't say anything, too gutless.

Yes, there were two lads of 11-12, afterwards realised the mum was in the car after he went over shouting mum. Also a very young boy and girl.

The mum and older boys have now all gone leaving the two little ones in the park alone.

The mum may have arrived after the cigarette as I only noticed her when he ran over shouting mum. So I can't be sure, perhaps she came to pick the older two up.
