To think if your leggings have the appearance of 40 denier tights

You should not wear them as trousers.
The amount of people I see wearing very see through leggings with little crop tops or tops that sit on the waist line with their knickers clearly on show is astounding. Do people not realise that this is akin to going out in just a pair of tights and short top? Do people even look in the mirror before they leave the house?

I'm not claiming to be perfect Fairy, in fact, far from but it's a tad more than not getting it right.

Missunreasonable · 07/08/2014 18:02

I make loads of fashion mistakes but not to the extent of thinking very thin transparent leggings are suitable substitutes for trousers. I love leggings but I always do a thickness test by holding them up to the light to check opacity when buying them and I only wear them with tops that are at least mid thigh length.

I am far from perfect. Neither is my arse. That is why I don't have it hanging out in leggings.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 07/08/2014 18:13

I only wear them with a long top (so like tights rather than trousers)
DD wears H&M (but she's a teeny size 6 gymnast and wears respectable pants - usually black seam free under black or skin tone seam free under any other)

Good Ladies of Romford, when you put your leggings on, turn your posterior to the mirror and bend forwatd. Have a good honest look at your arse. Because that's what we all see when you bend forward.
Some don't even need to bend , the fabric cries with the strain yes missy in the sparkly black leggings with the blue/white stripey knickers , I do mean you

TensionWheelsCoolHeels · 07/08/2014 18:14

I came across this look one morning, as I walked behind a teenager heading to school. I was convinced she'd tucked her skirt in her knickers by accident and was debating tapping her on the shoulder to avoid her being embarrassed in school. Then the penny dropped when I realised there was no skirt. It's a ridiculous look. Utterly ridiculous Smile

deakymom · 07/08/2014 18:28

there was this one lady today (i had to keep looking as she was in front of my pushchair and i really could not maneuver around) it was bend over stripy pants! turnaround boobs!

part of me wants winter so i don't feel the urge to criticize or compliment the underwear i see

CoffeeTea103 · 07/08/2014 18:30

Leggings are like skinny jeans, it's not for everyone. I find it's always the people it's unsuited for that have the underwear issue.

Igggi · 07/08/2014 19:02

I think we should not merge the crime of see-throughness with the crime of very large arse mostly because I have the latter

Missunreasonable · 07/08/2014 19:16

Yes, skinny arses are guilty of this serious crime too.

According to the many teens I know the fact they are see through is meant to be sexy. That's why they wear obvious underwear - not the plain black shorts style I would wear if I had any remote inkling anyone might see anything. Hence the see through leggings with a pair of polka dot red knickers for example. More often than not apparently it's intentional. .....

I won't be doing it anytime soon.

Bessiebigpants · 07/08/2014 19:20

The most sensible thing to do would be not to make them in smaller sizes. That way the fabric does nt stretch.Or and I'm proud of this one an exam at checkout hello lady I see you are buying leggings they appear to be size 12.madam before I can sell you those leggings I am duty bound to point out you've got a mahosive arse, would you like a larger size,No okay then I must ask you to complete this simple test. Will you be wearing them with A acrop top B a thong or similar,C a flattering tunic D A long line vest.If A or B then leggings must be returned and lady gets arrested by the fashion police.A short period of re education later and visible knicker syndrome is no more.
I'm quite a big bit old and remember the arse increasing qualities of the ski pant so take no prisoners.
As for those god awfull short shorts.Do these women not realise a bikini wax is a must omg the number of pubes I see is unreal( I live in a popular tourist area) why just why do their mums, boyfriends, friends not bloody well tell them!
I'm not biased against the larger lady I carry extra ballast in my rear end but would never ever want to humiliate myself like that and I love leggings.

heythatsnotme · 07/08/2014 19:20

Here we go ...

Does it hurt you?
Does it affect your life?
Does it make you feel good?

I am wearing leggings now with a top and cardi and I don't give a stuff if some random Mumsnetter doesn't like it.

Missunreasonable · 07/08/2014 19:25

Yes it does hurt me- it hurts my eyes.
I hope your leggings are not akin to 40 denier tights if your top and cardi stop at the waist Hmm. The sanpro example above is perfect reason of why it is a bad look.

I once saw a very stylish, attractive woman walk down the road wearing white linen trousers with a full bush on show. She was walking with confidence so I had no idea whether she knew and didn't care or if she just didn't realise.

heythatsnotme · 07/08/2014 19:35

Hurts your eyes my skimpily covered arse! There are plenty of things that aren't beautiful in the world: I just will never get why people CARE!

phantomnamechanger · 07/08/2014 19:37

YANBU
It's all I can do to not STARE at some people!

See through leggings, too-short hot pants....check.
Can I add to the list tight clingy jersey material maxi dresses which cling to (often naked) bum cheeks and cellulitey thighs, and the wobble effect when seen from the rear is quite astonishing.

CKDexterHaven · 07/08/2014 19:38

I don't really care what other people wear but I do now have a personal aversion to wearing white linen trousers as you never can really tell from looking in a mirror indoors how transparent they are going to be in the sunshine.

Missunreasonable · 07/08/2014 19:39

Obviously you missed my sarcasm about it hurting my eyes Hmm. Wear whatever you like but do consider that people will be laughing if you have your thong, cellulite, pubes or sanpro (all things mentioned here) on display. If you don't care what people think then good for you for being so confident.

DownstairsMixUp · 07/08/2014 19:40

I think people don't check/don't realize. I love leggings and the first pack of two I bought from New Look were fine, they soon had their day though so off I went to Primark, got home, put them on, checked the back view as you do, you could see EVERYTHING! Maybe not everybody checks their back view but luckily I do. I'd have been mortified with my knicks showing and I'm not fat either. Just don't fancy me bits on display.

Capitola · 07/08/2014 19:42

I was behind a woman in a checkout queue who committed every legging crime in one fell swoop.

She was very large so they were stretched and see through

She wore a short top so her backside was exposed

Her knickers were very obvious

So was her cellulite.

Now if she were to hang out in a community of those saintly mumsnetters that never judge, opine or criticise someone's sartorial choices, she'd be fine. But she was in the real world so had a line of people behind her going Shock.

GiveTwoSheets · 07/08/2014 19:44

I must be one of select few that this doesn't bother or maybe because my teen wears leggings.

I think its more a case of leggings being shit quality, I have found it difficult to get a decent pair and if you go up a size then they end up being baggy at the knees, I've tried many of shops.
