Went to park with dd (2) just about to put her in the large sand pit and a man stoped me told me not to put her in their as foxes use them and litter box (confused) didn't put her in the sand put however was a little bit miffed I have never heard this before should I have ignored the guy

Depending on thoughts may take her back tomorrow to play in the sand

If the sand looks lumpy, don't put her in it.

Foxes however ARE wild and don't use litter boxes. They will defecate as and where they need to. It's only domestic cats that have been trained to use a sand box/litter box as their toilet.

Use your own judgement, not a random stranger! :)

Eek my son is obsessed with sand we take a bucket and spade to every play park. I have never seen poo in a sandpit. From googling I don't think I would miss it and it must stink given their diet.

The whole outdoors is kind of natures toilet though

I think he may of ment more wee I did think it was a bit odd but wanted to go on the side of caution but just wondered if anyone ever heard of

If you've never heard of it you've never heard of it. If you've heard of it you've heard of it. Doesn't seem reasonable or unreasonable one way or the other.

I think YABU to be "miffed" that he was trying to be helpful.

Obviously it's your choice whether you take his advice.

AmIthatHot · 06/08/2014 23:27

Not sure why you would think YWBU to not have heard of this Confused

DiaDuit · 06/08/2014 23:32

maybe he'd been unlucky another time and was just over cautious ever since? he was just trying to save you a sticky, smelly mess on your toddler.

if you are worried just carry wet wipes and hand sanitizer with you.

It is a thing with cats. Don't know about foxes. I am a teacher and our nursery's outdoor sandpit must be covered when not in use in case a cat defecates in it. I also cover DD's sandpit in our garden as there are lots of cats that use our garden as a thoroughfare.
