To think that I can't be open minded about something this creepy?

I was trawling through Amazon for the purpose of updating my Kindle with all the free/cheap books I could find, when I came across this

'Tom rescues Ruthie from an abusive relationship, and during a three-week stay at his cottage on the coast, gives her the opportunity to truly be herself. During this time she acts out some of her fantasies as she relinquishes her insecurities and responsibilities, experiencing some of the carefree activities of childhood - including fun on the beach, donkey rides, cuddles, playing with toys and dressing in cute little girl clothes. So convincing is her little girl persona that the local shopkeeper thinks she is Tom's young daughter.'

I thought I was pretty open minded, anything goes between two consenting adults, etc etc, but really?

I get that some people are into very different things, but I just find this bloody weird. The man in this book gets a girl to pretend to be his daughter so he can fuck her? What?

Are people actually into this sort of thing?

is hopelessly naive

It's just a fetish - can't really see the harm.

There's a lot worse in Harry Potter fanfic and there was a massive thread on here about that.

LuisSuarezTeeth · 05/08/2014 12:25

You don't have to read it and it does have a warning.

Like it or not, there is fiction out there to appeal to any and every fetish.

MadameDefarge · 05/08/2014 12:26

You haven't lived until you have read ectoplasm porn.

Monkeychopsmum · 05/08/2014 12:29

ectoplasm porn HmmConfused

ValerieTheVodkaFairy · 05/08/2014 12:29

Ectoplasm porn just sounds comical Grin

It's just a fetish thing. From what I have read about it there appear to be women who like the idea of relinquishing control in the context of a safe environment with a trusted partner. Not my thing but I am not weirded out by it. Each to their own,,,

gamerchick · 05/08/2014 12:30

Is that second life monkey ?

BertieBotts · 05/08/2014 12:31

I think it's gross and bordering on fetishising child abuse. Even if it is fantasy, a book written about a "woman pretending to be a young girl" it doesn't take someone much brainpower to replace the mental image of a 30 yr old woman with an actual young girl. Nice easy way for someone to get around the law then Angry

Perhaps between consensual adults it is harmless but I'm not sure it should really be acceptable to be sold (even for free). I mean there's a massive difference between shagging someone in a fox costume and beastiality, but in a book about someone treating another adult as a child and the "child" reacting as a child, you're just basically reading child porn with a disclaimer "Oh, she's actually an adult pretending so it's okay" (except she presumably never steps out of character, so for the purposes of the story, she's not an adult at all)

Monkeychopsmum · 05/08/2014 12:32

IMJU or something like that gamer

Monkeychopsmum · 05/08/2014 12:33

Oops make that IMVU, apparently Google has more experience with this site than me.

ValerieTheVodkaFairy · 05/08/2014 12:34

BertieBotts, you've summed up how I feel about it, but struggled to articulate

there was a documentary on about this a couple of years ago. channel 4 I think. this husband and wife couple lived like this all the time. they threw children's birthday parties for the woman, she skipped along holding his hand in the street in her dresses, called him daddy. she played the role of a girl of around 6/7 but the husband was pressuring her to act younger, he wanted her to play a toddler aged girl of around 2 years old Hmm but she wasn't comfortable with it. they had converted their basement into a adult scale nursery with cot and toys etc. it was fucking creepy.

GratefulHead · 05/08/2014 12:36

Nah....not to do with child abuse. These people don't want to engage with real children in a sexual way. It is purely an adult thing....check out FetLife, it's full of personal ads for any fetish stuff. Plenty of adults into this kind of thing believe it or not. Girls looking for a "Daddy" to take care if them.

Am making myself sound an expert here....really I am not. Nor does it do anything for me but am confident it has nothing to do with child abuse and is just a power exchange/power play thing.

Mrsjayy · 05/08/2014 12:37

I saw a documentary about it once its an extention of the adult baby thing the woman had giant cot and high chair Confused each to their own but yes its creepy

Mrsjayy · 05/08/2014 12:40

Oh its not a child abuse fantasy the people on this documentary did have partners but didnt have sex as the persona, still weird though

BertieBotts · 05/08/2014 12:41

Maybe in real life Grateful but I am a bit boaky about it being a written novel where if you cut out the first couple of chapters, you could just be reading about a really creepy sexually abusive father to an actual little girl.

Eh, I know it's just fantasy but it's stepping into the territory of wrong for me. Perhaps if there was reference in the text to the fact she's actually older/bigger, had moments of "how is this working" etc but from what I've seen of this kind of fiction (which admittedly isn't that much) they don't do that, it's very much in-role.

Pyjamaramadrama · 05/08/2014 12:45

Hmm I'm not convinced at all that these people would have any interest in real children.

I reckon most people are into a tiny bit of power/control role play and this is the extreme end if it.

Pyjamaramadrama · 05/08/2014 12:47

I actually think that 'doggers' are far worse.

I watched a programme about that and it was really gross, and they're inflicting their fetishes onto other people by ruining nature spots.

LittlePeaPod · 05/08/2014 12:49

Dinosaur porn???? Are you kidding. Grin crying.

YADNBU. I hate anything like this.

Slightly off topic sorry. But, the other thing I hate and find really strange is those American style pageants where babies, toddlers and kids are dressed and painted to look like adults. Why any parent would want to do that to their child is beyond me.

Bue · 05/08/2014 12:49

I agree, Pyjama. It's the extreme end of submissive/controlling, isn't it? I don't think it translates into actual interest in children at all.

The giant high chairs and cots are still as creepy as all get out, though.

Monkeychopsmum · 05/08/2014 12:54

If it was purely a power control thing wouldn't a Dom/Sub agreement better?

Pyjamaramadrama · 05/08/2014 13:01

It does cross my line of weirdness, the adult babies are grotesque.

But some people like to be treated as dogs and have a doggy collar and bowl, I'm not quite sure they'd actually want to shag a dog. They want to be humiliated/humiliate.

QueenTilly · 05/08/2014 13:01

I accidentally found something far worse than that which still creeps me out in the middle of the night. [/competive horror]

The author had left a note saying this utterly disturbing story was brought about after he pondered missed opportunities...

Branleuse · 05/08/2014 13:08

its not particularly unusual, and if its consenting adults then its fine.

if youre going to start trying to get your head round all the different things that people privately enjoy sexually, then youre probably going to struggle.

MostWicked · 05/08/2014 13:44

It's a fetish and it has no link to child abuse.
Not my thing at all but each to their own when it is very clearly consenting adults.

And if you read the reviews of that book, one of them complains "there was zero sex"
