Find it unnerving when babies do this?

When you're holding them and they're sleeping. You look down, their eyes are closed. You look away, then back down and their eyes are wide open staring at you. No stirring, stretching, or any "waking up" cues. Just open eyes.

I feel like they should at least stir a little first.

Or is it just my DD?

When they're very little babies can't see very well, I don't think, does it help to know that they're probably not focusing on you!

Reminds me of Jo in the Chalet School and how they went on about her "funny trick" of opening her eyes suddenly wide open. I tried to train myself to do it when I was little, never managed, possibly you have to be born with that particular talent.

NoTedInTheBed · 04/08/2014 00:40

My DD does this. She's also just mastered sitting up from lying down, and it is pretty freaky when from the corner of your eye, a little baby slowly lifts herself up to sitting (no hands) and stares at you in the darkness. It's like the exorcist or something!

DarylDixonsDarlin · 04/08/2014 00:41

Is she actually awake?

All my babies did an eye-rolling, opening and closing eyes, moving eyes side to side, looking right through at me thing, where they look like they're having a wild and crazy dream, but fast asleep! Freaked me right out, every time Grin

HappySeaTurtles · 04/08/2014 00:41

It's just more the "Omg. When did you wake up, and how long have you been awake?" That gets me. How long has she been quietly staring? Grin

Dear of her, enjoy it while you can I say! I've known some babies never wake up without screaming :)

HappySeaTurtles · 04/08/2014 00:47

Is she actually awake?

She raises her eyebrows or smiles when I say hi, so I assume so. :)

She has pulled the "dead baby trick" with her eyes half open, mouth slack jaw, and no breathing noise. I flipped, shocked her awake and she gave me the dirtiest look for waking her up.

NoTed No hands? I'd freak.

Moo ha ha wait til she is a toddler in own bed and executes the Scare Your Mama move by creeping to your bedside and performing the Silent Stare inches from your sleeping face to make you shriek as you wake

MrsWinnibago · 04/08/2014 00:55

It's also alarming when they do that rolling their eyes to show the whites...when they've got wind isn't it?
