To expect my adult DC to have forgotten about stupid shit I did when they were little?

....especially when I had completely forgotten about it as it was back in 2001?
We were sat having tea tonight when eldest dd was asking me about the pain of giving birth to her 9lb5oz little brother 5 years ago.
"was that the worst pain ever mum?"
"No darling, the worst pain ever was when I had that abscess on my tooth 13 years ago, you and dd2 looked after me"
"Oh yes mum, I remember that - you were constantly smoking antibiotics, me and dd2 knew you were lying - I wonder if dd2 remembers it too?"
At this I nearly choked on my wine! I had forgotten ALL about that! I just remember being in the most horrendous pain and DH a good friend suggested that a bit of skunk for medicinal purposes would be fine. I never forgot the pain experience but completely forgot about taking illicit drugs in front of my beloved DDs. I have always been very vocal to them about my opposition to illicit drug taking for either recreational or 'medicinal' reasons. I just wonder how they kept a straight face all these years.
Let this be a warning to you - just because you have forgotten doesn't mean your DC have.

Are you still smoking it? Trying think of another reason why you'd think it was a good idea to admit that to mumsnet Shock

Erm. Mumsnet is anonymous.

icclemunchy · 03/08/2014 21:30

Hehe. Poor you OP there's nothing like loosing the moral high ground to your kids Grin

For what it's worth as someone who suffers numerous tooth abscesses I totally understand why you gave it a go to get rid of the pain. DP found me sobbing one night looking through his tool box. I was dead set on pulling the tooth out to stop the pain!!

Ilovenewts · 03/08/2014 21:36

Nothing wrong with the odd spliff but maybe not I front of the kids. But yeah I totally see why you would if you were in that much pain !!

AlpacaYourThings · 03/08/2014 21:39

thatstoast are you new? Have you seen someone of the stuff that people admit to on here? Skunk is very, very take in comparison.

AlpacaYourThings · 03/08/2014 21:39

*tame

thatstoast · 03/08/2014 21:40

Erm. Mumsnet is anonymous.

That's what they want you to think. Someone will be dialling 101 to report her any moment now.

helenenemo · 03/08/2014 21:43

I'm Mozzereena is my NDN. Calling Environmental Health. She's stinking out my bbq.

Have you seen someone of the stuff that people admit to on here?

Yeah, and I've seen them get crucified for it. I'm not shocked that she did it, just think AIBU might not be the right place to reminisce about it.

Mozzereena · 03/08/2014 22:01

Now I remember it!
But the drug taking is just a hazy memory to me. The drug did not seem to to anything for my pain but at the time it was preferable to be off my tits and in pain than not off my tits.
My face had swollen up like a balloon and I was moaning and crying and watching the clock for my 4 hourly dose of paracetamol.
I remember even the kids were crying cos I was in that much pain, they were trying to do everything they could for me the little darlings!
I suppose they must have been traumatised by my experience.

Blimey, I must be sheltered as I genuinely am a bit [shocked]

MrsMikeDelfino · 03/08/2014 22:14

I'm not surprised they could remember it if it;s like you said and you were moaning and crying in front of them.
It'll have been a traumatic memory for them - and drug taking in front of them?! To in your own words - 'be off your tits' in front of them?! Even more so!
Never OK.

Mozzereena · 03/08/2014 22:19

Now I'm a bit nervous about what other stupid shit they are going to remind me I did when they were little that I have forgotten.
I know I'm not the best mum in the world - however my DC insist that I am Grin

JudysPriest · 03/08/2014 22:39

Like that time you shot up in playgroup! Grin

CiderwithBuda · 03/08/2014 22:45

I would be shocked except I had horrendous pain from a dental abscess once, I would have sold my mother for pain relief. I don't smoke but would have tried ANYTHING to get rid of the pain. ANYTHING!

Mozzereena · 03/08/2014 22:48

JudysPriest oh fuck I do hope they don't remember that too! Grin
I'm just so grateful my DC are better than I ever was.

Mozzereena · 03/08/2014 22:52

I have always been so very anti-smoking and and anti- mother-selling but you wouldn't have believed it back then I was in so much agony.
What would a decent mum have done?

FlossyMoo · 03/08/2014 23:00

Taken herself off to A & E.
Asked DH to call the emergency GP.
Hot water bottle wrapped and applied to face.
Equally cold compress.
Oh and lastly possibly (but this is just me) not smoked cannabis in front of my children.

FlossyMoo · 03/08/2014 23:02

Grin @ Cider

FiftyShadesOfGreen4205 · 03/08/2014 23:08

I'm calling 101 right this minute

Mozzereena · 03/08/2014 23:08

But in those days flossymoo it was deemed acceptable to smoke in front of your kids. People did it everywhere.
And isn't to tell a white lie to your kids deemed acceptable even now?
"What is that you are smoking, mum? You don't smoke"
"It's antibiotics darling, to make my tooth better."
I guess they were smarter than I gave them credit for.

Maybe they shpuld start offering spliffs in labour. Save on the G&A.

Darquesse · 03/08/2014 23:12

Couldn't you have got someone to babysit if you needed to take drugs for pain relief.
