I don't know if they'd be called "in-jokes" exactly, but I always see posters refer to things like:
Naice ham
Pom bears
Penis beaker
Etc...

Now I've been on mumsnet for almost a year and I caught the penis beaker hoopla Grin But what's the story with the other ones? Including the ones I forget right now, you know the ones. I'd like to know!

Wally I much prefer your version :)

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 04/08/2014 18:47

There was also Brian from Hull: the best example of Creepy Male Newbie I've ever seen.

CarbeDiem · 04/08/2014 20:02

Grin @ Disgrace

What a guy was Brian.

Koothrapanties · 04/08/2014 20:05

Well bugger me, I thought it meant stupid bastard! Huh. You learn a new thing every day.

UsedToBeAPaxmanFan · 04/08/2014 20:59

Brian from Hull offering Yoni massage was the first classic which I grasped, so that when an even-newer-than-me MNer came along and said "I don't understand the Brian from Hull references" I could feel smug and know that I finally belonged to the MN quiche.

Haven't read the Pombear thread but am au fait with Penguin Bollards.

It's the shortenings of phrases that gets me - for months I thought LTB stood for "learn to breathe" (ie calm down) and thought that was a pretty inappropriate thing to say most of the time - although sometimes also strangely apt.... PFB and POAS also threw me for ages.

Grin charmkin!

Hi PrincessF Grin

Icelollycraving · 06/08/2014 19:09

I found the pombears thread overrated tbh.
The lemon drizzle one was marvellous though. I love the ones where there are the thoroughly entitled shitbags who never cease to amaze.
The swimming pool op came on on a thread the other day to say the cheeky neighbours divorced & moved. She & her dh went skinny dipping & the new neighbour has now started to say hello!

Tallalime · 06/08/2014 19:57

There are a few funny ones that I generally think are started by the same person under different guises. They have a certain style.

Sharon and the wasp, the hamwidge thread, the one with the woman who had imperfect cakes and no birds.

They have all given me a giggle.

NewtRipley · 06/08/2014 19:59

They are phrases that people write to prove they are long time users and not trolls

Although you could lurk for a few hours and pick then up, so pretty meaningless for all that

Where is Penguin Date? Eh?

And what about Pigeon Chasing?

LilMissVixen · 06/08/2014 21:03

I always thought the biscuit was a kind of: Oh this really takes the biscuit!

ihatethecold · 06/08/2014 21:48

Penguin date was my favourite classic thread.

Szeli · 07/08/2014 05:51

Even though I know STBEXH I still read it as "stupid bastard ex"

^ what does it mean if not that?

DoristheCamel · 07/08/2014 06:10

Ihatethecold - Penguin Date is my favourite thread too. I absolutely loved that and can remember it unfolding. That has to be the funniest thread ever.Grin Grin Grin Grin

Is it still in classics?

plinth · 07/08/2014 06:21

Can I add the "I pooed on my skirt" thread?

I was crying with laughter and I'm on it SmileSmile

WittgensteinsBunny · 07/08/2014 07:00

Grin Brian from Hull Grin that thread brightened up a very boring day at work I still think i am the one and yoni was one of my fave comments. And only the other day was I explaining a hamwidge to my DH. He wondered if it was ham - bread - ham. Grin

And now I know what a quiche is. I have long wondered and have been too scared to ask!

Polishes naice MN membership badge and contemplates a MN scarf

plinth · 07/08/2014 08:42

I've been a member for years and the only acronym that I absolutely can't work out is ipoat.

Plus even more strangely I haven't seen it around now for quite a while, although it have no idea why not....

MagratsHair · 07/08/2014 09:20

Insane Posters on a Thread

Used to be a clique called the IPOAT Hall (I think) but most of the posters have gone, just general attrition/NYE last year & general complaining that MN has gawn to the dawgs that you always get from time to time....

plinth · 07/08/2014 14:07

Ah yes, the NYE debacle.

I was lucky enough to escape off to bed before it all kicked off Smile

Whilewildeisonmine · 07/08/2014 14:25

Was there a thread about a lady on the train with a guillemot she picked up on the beach? She told the guard that she had found a penguin.

I think about that from time to time and still laugh.

plinth · 07/08/2014 14:33

Yes While. She took it to the zoo on a train and they informed her it was a guillemot Smile

What about the lady who casseroled her son's hamster? I think she was a troll but that was back in the days when trolls tried hard and were funny.... And the woman who found her husband masturbating in the garage with kitchen implements....

ChoosandChipsandSealingWax · 08/08/2014 10:14

Ah I missed the Pombear one at the time - thanks so much OP! Bear

Off to peruse Classics for Mexican holiday home and swimming pool and Penguin Date...

lauranorder50 · 08/08/2014 12:16

STBXH or something like that means Soon To be Ex Husband. There's a whole lexicon of fairly juvenile abbreviations if you want to be considered to be 'in'.

The biscuit icon, I thought, was just a way of saying, have a biscuit from me as a kind of cheer you up gesture.

There are some seriously self righteous and/or entitled posters on MN. Some also make me wonder what planet they are on.

I can now see because of the amount of threads I've read that some threads are made up but with just enough information to not make it obvious.

There's a lack of honesty on a lot of threads in relationships. The irony is that it's mumsnet discussion contributors taking the piss out of other mumsnet discussion contributors.

Why so many name changes for people anyway ? Is it the same twenty or so people talking to each other ? Are the majority of the threads started by MNHQ or people working for MNHQ as they know what will make their audience react ?
