To think that considering 95% of the population score between 70-120 on an IQ test there are an awful lot of 5% being scored on my Facebook at the moment

Actually I guess it's less than 5% as that must include those who score below 70.

I know it's only a bit of fun I guess but its a bit annoying as dd scores highly 138 on a proper (Weshler ) test but is struggling on the autistic spectrum. The test was done as part of the diagnostic process.

I know I need to chill about it.

Why on earth would it annoy you?

Picturesinthefirelight · 03/08/2014 11:33

I don't know. Just that they are trying to boast about their IQ based on a not properly recognised Internet test that takes about 5 mins to complete.

Every result I've seen so far is 120 or higher.

Only the people that score highly will boast - and some of will have cheated a bit no doubt.

This kind of thing is one of the many reasons I stay away from Facebook.

Sympathies for what you and your daughter are going through - that is not easy and also serves to emphasise that having a high iq is not always all its cracked up to be.

x2boys · 03/08/2014 11:43

I did this i op I got 120 lol I didn't post it though but I suppose most people who get an average or below average wouldn't post it!

Limer · 03/08/2014 11:43

All of those FB quizzes/tests are just vehicles for gathering data, so of course the "results" are geared to flatter people in order that they repost the quiz to get more entrants... etc etc. It won't be a real IQ test.

ShanghaiDiva · 03/08/2014 11:49

Just be happy that all your friends are so clever ;)

creampie · 03/08/2014 11:53

Anyone trying to estimate their IQ based on a Facebook buzz feed quiz, immediately knocks at least 20% off the score just for the fact that they think this is an acceptable psychometric test! Grin

gordyslovesheep · 03/08/2014 11:59

I think you need to chill out - it's a shitty FB quiz not an IQ tests
My dd is similar to yours but I don't get offended by FB quizes

RockinHippy · 03/08/2014 12:25

Chill out, it's just a bit of fun, no-one over 12 takes is seriously FFS Confused

I've got friends on my feed posting both low & high scores & having a laugh about it, I got a silly high score - with a migraine - so did 11yr old DD - we are not planning on joining MENSA anytime soon, any more than taking any other if the silly bit of fun quizzes seriously Confused

DinoSnores · 03/08/2014 12:30

Even if you deliberately get every question wrong on that test, you get told that you have an IQ of 100. I've tried it!

NynaevesSister · 03/08/2014 12:32

I can't imagine they are taking them seriously and if they are then they're idiots. I studied all forms of IQ texts as part of a degree course and I also spent months repeatedly doing IQ tests as part of a research project. For years after I could easily score more than 140 on a test and it had nothing to do with how intelligent I was.

A test as you know is meaningless on its own. Needs to be as part if an overall assessment.

Vitalstatistix · 03/08/2014 12:33

I thought everyone knows that those online tests are bollocks.

You just do them for a bit of fun. They're meaningless.

I'm getting loads of 'which disney princess are you' and 'which HIMYM character are you' and all that shit.

I see those online IQ tests as the same as those. Stupid, meaningless and just a few minutes entertainment when you're bored.

I've done a couple. According to them I'm brighter than Einstein and Hawkins put together.

Yesterday I tried to work out how old I was when I had my kids and I had to get a piece of paper.

So. yeah...

QueenTilly · 03/08/2014 12:45

There's three possible conclusions here:

  1. The tests have no value at all, and they're just a marketing thing;
  2. The tests are awesome, but only 5% of your friends dare post their score.
  3. Birds of a feather flock together- you and all your friends are really intelligent, and so that's why you're seeing all these high scores.

It's gotta be option 3, right? Grin

ThisFenceIsComfy · 03/08/2014 12:50

I did that one. I scored highly. I'm really not that clever. The test is clearly bollocks. I wouldn't let it wind you up.

AmpleRaspberries · 03/08/2014 12:50

It's just a bit of fun. I got a high score on it when I don't do very well normally on things like that, especially when you have to do number sequencing and shape selection. However, it's ridiculously easy and you can tell straight away it's not a proper test.

I love fb, but you have to take most of it with a pinch of salt

ThisFenceIsComfy · 03/08/2014 12:52

I am also part of the Night's Watch according to a Fb quiz. HTH.

wobblyweebles · 03/08/2014 16:42

I took the FB quiz that's going round at the moment, purposefully got every question wrong, and still scored 'high'.

It's a load of rubbish.

ElizabethArdenGreenTea · 03/08/2014 16:44

I just did one and the result was 130. I thought, really? I doubt it, so I didn't post it to fb.

MagnificentMaleficent · 03/08/2014 16:53

I have done the Mensa test and got 128, did the FB one and got 128 - oh must be good I thought.

Then I saw a suspicious number of 128's appearing on my FB feed Grin

Beat DH though even though he is brighter than me so I'm happy Wink
