My doctors has seen fit to move to first come first see system which opens at 8 so people start queing at 6 and they always have way more people than physically possible. To see it means 3-4 hour wights and the quailty of the consultation has gone down and are not carrying out the basic checks.

They are usually very good I fear this is going to end badly appointments based system was better with children under 1 and people over 70 given pirorty

It sounds awful. Could you move to a different GP practice?

HumptyWasPushed · 01/08/2014 22:44

Do they still offer telephone appointments? Sounds pretty unreasonable to me.

Thefishewife · 01/08/2014 22:45

Ridiculous Angry

So. They are offering a mix of appts and 'stay and wait' ?
Sounds excellent to me. My surgery does both and it means everyone can get seen.

Idontseeanyicegiants · 01/08/2014 23:05

The surgery I worked at moved away from a drop in style morning for precisely the reasons you wrote. It became almost like a social group where people turned up for a sit down and a chat but the genuinely ill ended up on a conveyor belt and the GP's felt like they were seeing patients but not being able to actually treat them effectively. The move to appointment based surgery caused much sucking of teeth but worked out well.
YANBU, in my experience it has potential to be a disaster.

Thefishewife · 01/08/2014 23:05

No they are not offering that the first comes see only works if your ill before 8am because if you if you get their after there is literally about 100 people waiting their were people sitting on the floor it was mad

And because there are so many people the booking them in first thing on Tuesday which means when you ring in a Tuesday at 8 like your told to your told it's all. Booked up
