To be shocked at how different my child is after an afternoon with Grandma?

Grandma took DD off for an afternoon of fun. dd is nearing three and pretty much potty trained (gentle reminders and using of loos as we pass them) however whilst with grandma has somehow had three changes of trousers due to accidents.

She is chatty and well behaved but has not stopped talking since she got home - at first I thought it was excitement but she just was like a duracell bunny!

She has been attempting to scale the couch numerous times and screaming at the slightest request to do anything. Clearly she is shattered but my god!! are everyones kids like this after a trip with a grandparent? I cannot believe the difference in her today.

Has she consumed something she might not usually have? DS1 goes mental if he has an orange fruit shoot. God knows what is in it but he's like a different person, bouncing off the walls

She's full of coke.... The liquid kind, hence the Weeing and sugar high

Did granny buy her sweeties?! My DS can be quite wilful too after a session with grandparents as he gets spoiled for attention

Apparently the only sweets shes had are three fruit pastilles. She didnt eat much of her dinner according to Grandma - one fish finger a few peas and a couple of wedges but ate a whole muller yoghurt.

She usually only drinks water or milk so I asled her what Grandma had given her to drink and she said water with ice cubes in it.

HeySoul thats what im concerned about. Grandma gives her other GD coke and Ive said not to give dd any fizzy drinks. Food wise im pretty laid back but would be really cross if she had given her coke as she knows I dont want her having it.

My MIL was caught rubbing a chocolate biscuit on my pfb's lips when he was 6 weeks old ......

We are on holiday right now... I'm allowing coke. It's a once/twice a year thing but I'm amazed at the difference of behaviour

How old are yours Hey? Ive no doubt itll become a rare treat in time but at not even three I just think Grandma needs to listen when I say no?

My DD is like this with my MIL. It's not too much sugar because MIL would only give her a handful of chocolate buttons and I trust that is true.

It's as though DD just gets into a state of excitement and can't contain herself with her Nana.

Ive put her in bed and thankfully shes gone quiet very quickly so hopefully that means she has crashed!

My DD gets generally fed with much more than she would usually need, not just with sugar but it does all add up. Yoghurts, raisins, juice whatever, and things like "healthy" toddler bars appear in 2-box quantities(??!!) in the cupboard as if I wasn't capable of buying or thinking up snacks.

I also find that DD can successfully try to bend her grandma to whatever she wants to do, flitting around at toddler speed/attention span, rather than it being the adult to try and keep tings on a calmer, more even keel.

We've had words. The dentist had words, and was slightly more successful, but not much.

I think children get high on any indulgence. It's probably not sugar, just excitement and being able to push the boundaries a little further than usual. My dad whips my kids into a frenzy with too many tickles and laughing at rude words.

Other Grandma dd spends more time with and as such doesnt have any difference in behaviour on her return, so on ome hand more time with Suger High Grandma should regulate her behaviour a bit more but the thought of this tasmanian devil child coming home every time!?

There is no way she gave her grand daughter iced water. Her story doesn't stack up.

Mine swore blind they'd only had the packed lunch given, but last I checked Clementine's don't morph into partly chewed refresher sweets!

I may have trust issues around grand parents!

Oh it was dd who said she had water and ice cubes. She is fond of ice cubes. She may be bullshitting though.

DS gma gets him hyped up and totally out of control too... She doesn't need coke, it's just her.

brilliant idea. And dd is a 6.15am riser regardless of bedtime too.

Yanbu to be livid - but I found I was more annoyed by the breech of trust and the lying than the actual sugar.

One grandparent I just let go of the sugar thing, it was more important that they had a great time overall.

The other grandparent was just a fucking liability who I wouldn't trust to keep them safe, sweets was the tip of an iceberg.

Our dd is the same with both her sets of GPs, they don't give her anything we wouldn't. I think they just let them get away with more than they would at home and the kids know how to wind them round their little finger so they love it, if our dd is with her GPs she can normally be found running round the house shouting and screaming wheras we would distract Her to another activity after 5 mins or so. I wouldn't think your mum has done anything wrong.

Sugar high is a myth. Although preservative / e number high is not!

You seem to want to be livid with gandma even though people have told you that their dc are the same even without sugar.
I understand you don't want your rules broken and i felt the same when my dc were little, but you have no proof.
Your dd will probaby be telling the truth as at this age they don't understand about telling lies and consequences and granny shouldn't do x so I'll pretend she didn't.
If she said she had water with ice cubes I'd say she was pretty much right.
