To consider buying a white leather couch?

The leather is not an option Grin I need something wipe able.

The reason is that DH and dd2 are messy buggers. They don't mean it but they drop things a lot.

So, would white be a disaster? I'm a little bit in love with one I have seen...but I fall deep and long with sofas. I'm only now prepared to part with my almost 12 year old navy leather three seater. I will want another long lasting love affair!

White sounds very lovely, but brave too!

BumpNGrind · 30/07/2014 22:33

White is easier than some colours, it washes clean with a bit of hairspray! I know someone who has a brown leather sofa that's now gone pink where her head usually is because of the dye in her hair. Nothing can be done about it and you cant use bleach (you can cautiously use it with a white leather sofa)

Devora · 30/07/2014 22:44

OP, I am telling you this very kindly, as a friend. You do NOT want that sofa. You are a real person, not a catalogue image. You will weep bitter salty tears if you give in to this impulse.

I really think brown leather is your best bet - so versatile. And it absolutely will go with grey and white if you pick the brown carefully - you want a very neutral, dark brown - nothing too red- or yellow-toned.

RJnomore · 30/07/2014 22:49

But but but...I could ban my family from the house and buy one of those white disposable forensic style jumpsuits to wear when I am home myself??

Neutral dark brown noted. My original thought was dark brown this time as it very versatile and I tend to go for cream/taupe/duck egg blue type colours but I just want my house to look lovely instead of abused lived in.

It is pretty isn't it

I have cream leather since the boy was 2 - now 13. Down side is that it gets really grubby - especially with dye leaching from jeans. Occasional pen mark too. Boys and friends tend to Be really grubby. Hard to clean even though there are those magic wipes. No up side for me. I would choose a darker leather until they have left home.

I fell in love with a sofa on a tv ad, that was white, when I went to the shop to see the sofa I discovered they did it in purple, i'm so glad I went for that colour now

That's a lovely colour.

My friend had beautiful bright red sofas once.

Pale grey leather is ok, can be cleaned with cif ( jif in the old days)

WyrdByrd · 30/07/2014 23:53

Not unreasonable but a bit mad!

My mum is the most houseproud person I know - she'd make Hyacinth Bucket look laid back, but within a year her cream sofa was showing signs of wear & tear and it frequently gets a bit grubby, even with 2 non-smoking pensioners in a pet free home.

WyrdByrd · 31/07/2014 00:01

Have you been to a store & looked at swatches? The website says they do 40 different colours so I'd imagine they might have a few shades of grey if you didn't want to go as dark as black.

If you don't mind committing to a colour for years then red, orange or purple would look good.

It is a lovely sofa Smile .

We have a white leather sofa (not marshmallow at all) and a toddler and now a newborn too. It wipes clean and still looks good 4 years on. Its this one but I'm sure we got it cheaper than that.

luccamum · 31/07/2014 07:11

We have a pale cream corner unit, it has survived 2 large humans, 2 35kg Weims and 3 cats for 8 years.
Yes, it's a bit battered around the edges, but it is still the same colour it was when new.
What you need is Wizz leather clean and feed, £1:99 from Home Bargains.
Used it from day 1, shifts anything.
Go for it, OP!

beachywaves · 31/07/2014 07:48

We had two white leather sofas from Shabitat. Loved them. When they became a bit mucky, I would scrub them with hot water and pure soap flakes and they would come up brilliantly.

sonjadog · 01/08/2014 21:57

I have a bright red sofa. I love it. Everyone who comes into my house comments on how great it is. I don't think they are just being polite.

RJnomore · 01/08/2014 21:59

A colour is too big a commitment. I need neutral that I can paint and theme round!

Been to look at swatches today. Undecided. Aargh why is it so difficult, it's a big purchase but it's not that major surely!

Just do the 1950's thing and keep the plastic covers on.

Permanently white and clean.

RJnomore · 01/08/2014 22:51

I was going to laminate the kids and DH instead?

I would never buy white anything. I worked in a furniture shop and we had this white desk my boss was desperate to unload we had to offer it to anyone looking for a desk even if what they ask for was the total opposite of it. I spent at least half of my day in work cleaning that thing it always looked dirty and when I left it was still sitting there begging someone to buy it

LucyBabs · 01/08/2014 23:08

Oh rj your sofa is fab Grin
We had a cream leather sofa and it was awful but it was because it looked nicotine stained after a while and we don't smoke!

If I was to buy leather it would be chocolate brown, so comfy and warm
