to think grown adults should be able to understand a thermastat

Every day people in the office turn down the air con to 15 degrees to 'cool it down quicker' and then after a few hours it gets too cold so it needs to be turned up.

Surely its not a difficult concept of a thermostat?

I feel like I'm working with simpletons, they just don't get it at all.

I enjoy threads about "simpletons" with spelling mistakes in the title. It makes you look silly.

MrsPresley · 29/07/2014 14:11

sienna. That made me laugh and scare the cat Grin

sorry OP Blush

Cereal0ffender · 29/07/2014 14:13

What about ungrown adults?

specialsubject · 29/07/2014 14:14

I'm the first in the spelling police queue, but in this case I think the OP has a serious point.

but a thermostat is science, innit. That's wot geeks do.

FraidyCat · 29/07/2014 14:14

YANBU. There seem to be an awful lot of adults that think it's like a volume control. My DW sometimes asks me turn ours up/down because some room isn't currently the right temperature. I start to explain, but frustration makes my head explode, before I finish, so she never learns.

Andrewofgg · 29/07/2014 14:15

MrsPresley You should apologise to the cat, not to the OP.

Of course an offended cat will always find a way to get even . . .

KellyElly · 29/07/2014 14:17

Sorry about that, I just get very hot and want to get cold asap Grin

lizzzyyliveson · 29/07/2014 14:19

I live with someone who thinks the override switch is a magical central heating booster. All that happens it that I have to get up in the middle of the night because the radiator by my bed is blazing hot while he snoozes on oblivious. It doesn't matter how many times it is explained, the next time it is chilly he will flick that little switch without saying anything.

IneedAwittierNickname · 29/07/2014 14:21

I'm an ungrown adult and I know how to work a thermostat :proud:

SqueakySqueak · 29/07/2014 14:24

I do that. Blush

I know there's no logic to it, just like pressing the elevator button twice or moving the game controller while playing to make the character move better. It's just something people do.

lauradepp · 29/07/2014 14:50

But unlike pressing an elevator button twice it actually does something this.

In the winter they turn the thermostat up to 30 to warm the place up quicker. All that happens is it gets too hot q d have to open the windows and end up wasting energy.

These are professional people but despite me trying to explain, it just sewms beyond them

OP posts:
Wickeddevil · 29/07/2014 15:46

Umm at this risk of being a thicko, turning the thermostat to 30 won't make it get to 20 (or your preferred temperature) any quicker and I thought this was your point?

Apologies, AIBU. As I have come on to this thread for the one and only purpose of sharing Jeremy's boiler theory

lauradepp · 29/07/2014 17:17

Sorry wicked I should of put that in quotes!

I really think some people here do agree with Jeremy..

OP posts:
Wickeddevil · 30/07/2014 08:31

Oh ok [I get it]
I call it not being unreasonable, but yes there are a lot of Jeremys out there.
