My DH randomly instigates conversation with strangers in a given environment (ie pub, supermarket queue, drs surgery) inappropriate and/or embarrassing..it makes me squirm. Am I just uptight ?

But surely if someone has headphones on and their nose in their phone/kindle etc, that would be a cue for most people not to chat to them?

I do this so that people leave me alone, but have noticed that people often don't pick up on cues, and they will come up to me and put their hand on my arm etc to get my attention and then they start chatting. (I hate being touched but that's a whole other thread!)

I am usually polite, but am usually on my way to/from work, so I am just trying to get a little bit of quiet time to get my head together.

I love chatting to random strangers as I get to hear about all sorts of useful and useless shit Grin It's par for the course as a dog owner to chat to other dog owners, but I can strike up conversation with most people. It's great because I'm new to the area and I've been finding out loads of things from short cuts to local history.Smile The only time I find it intrusive is when asked where I live but I assume it isn't asked for sinister reasons.
