to not give my daughter a lift

to not pick up my daughter this morning from her friend's house? It's a 30 min walk away, or a 3 min drive. She does little or no exercise, and so my insisting on her walking her caused a text row. I just want her to move a bit and not be sat on her backside staring at screens. She's begging me now. ;(

She should walk.

Buttercup27 · 27/07/2014 08:33

Maker her walk. It won't do her any harm.

Namechangearoonie123 · 27/07/2014 08:33

Did you drop her off ?

With teenagers I tell them if it's under an hour they walk/cycle but over that I will pick them up.

Pinkje · 27/07/2014 08:33

Get her to walk half way ( or tell her that, then be late so she ends up walking all the way).

Namechangearoonie123 · 27/07/2014 08:34

18!!!!!

Hahaha haaaaaaa

Ffs. Lazy mare.

superbagpuss · 27/07/2014 08:34

at 18 I was living on my own, no car and walked everywhere
she can walk

Namechangearoonie123 · 27/07/2014 08:34

And stop texting her, it's not a discussion.

Finola1step · 27/07/2014 08:35

I diagnose lazyitis.

Do not give in OP.

wowfudge · 27/07/2014 08:35

Let her walk - will do her good as you say. Busy yourself doing other things and disengage from the texting.

amyhamster · 27/07/2014 08:37

18?!
She's an adult
I'd tell her to stop sending angry texts or she'll find her stuff packed & by the door when she gets in

ChasedByBees · 27/07/2014 08:37

Goodness me, she should walk!

PogoBob · 27/07/2014 08:38

YANBU in principle and getting her into the habit of moving more is a really valuable idea.

In terms of today I'd be looking at how hot it is, it's already boiling her and I'd not want to take a 30 minute walk unless I had water / hat with me as I really sensitive to the heat.

I do exercise (martial art so hard work) in the heat before any calls me lazy, just have to make sure I had plenty of fluid

MagratsHair · 27/07/2014 08:40

30 minutes is nothing! Its one trip from my house to school, I hardly even get up a sweat let alone struggle with it.

She can & should walk.

Out of interest what's her reasons, is it just that she doesn't want to?

watchingthedetectives · 27/07/2014 08:42

Another one for walking. I don't think the heat is prohibitive - 30 mins at 20/21 degrees is very pleasant!

weegiemum · 27/07/2014 08:43

My dd2 is 10 and her best friend is 20 mins walk away, and she'll walk home easily!

BoffinMum · 27/07/2014 08:44

I don't do lifts. Tell her to buy a bike if she doesn't like walking.

ajandjjmum · 27/07/2014 08:45

I'd be busy, far too busy to hear my phone bleep!

MrsDermotOLeary · 27/07/2014 08:45

Blimey. As other posters have said, by 18 I was living away from my family and didn't drive. I walked/cycled everywhere or used public transport.
She needs to learn not to depend on you so much. She should definitely walk.
Has she heavy bags to carry?

MaccaPaccaismyNemesis · 27/07/2014 08:48

At 18 I was responsible for getting everywhere on my own. 30 minutes is nothing!

CrystalDeCanter · 27/07/2014 08:59

You are totally nbu. Turn your phone off and let her walk.

teenagersknowall · 27/07/2014 21:28

i thought so. sometimes you cant see the wood for the trees. Yep i stuck to my guns. made her walk. thank you all wise owls. just needed to borrow a backbone this morning!

I'm with you OP. At 18 she can walk or pay for a taxi and I'm sorry I don't care how hot it is, it's not too hot to walk 30 mins. She can ask her hosts for a bottle of water if it's that bad.

Although, in my world, I would refuse and then DC's friend's parents would drive them and make me feel terrible.
