Conversation with OH, I'd set 6 aside without icing to freeze. He has this idea that cakes aren't as nice after been frozen, doesn't stop him from eating them though. And funny enough doesn't comment if he doesn't know; plonker.

I just don't see the point in heating up the oven, doing all the washing up etc for 6 cakes, even if I'm not the one doing the washing up.

If you're making them it's your business. If he wants it done his way, he needs to make them. Unless he is your employer.

My husband is picky about all sorts of shit so I don't tell him and he doesn't know.

Kinda agree with your dh. Fairy cakes (not those horrible cup cakes) are best eaten fresh and still warm, if iced even better. My gran used to make some with real lemon on the top and in icing and put them in the fridge. Can I have one of those fairy cakes please....they sound very nice..x

Yeah less than 12 is a bit of a waste of effort and oven heat (especially in the summer!). Most cake tastes fine if it's been frozen.

I have to make 24 if I want there to be any tomorrow. Never made enough to freeze any!

Yes London I do make real lemon cakes but sometimes I make the icing with lemon curd. Just for real tang.

He's been a toddler ATM lack of sleep, work, big family issues so he's getting a bit more leeway than normal and he knows and appreciates it. He's a good un really.

As a foreigner, can someone pleasepleaseplease explain the difference between fairy cakes and cupcakes, and why it creates The Rage?

I need to make about 2 dozen for it to even be worth my while, there is only DS and I in the house! By the time neighbours/family/colleagues have their share dropped off there are few left for DS and I.

Fairy cakes are nice. Cupcakes are sickly horrible with too much icing on top.

Fairy cakes are traditional and tasty. Cupcakes have a lot if cream on and taste sicky and plastic. Come on mn explain better than me.

Jassy all of that, basically. I like fairy cakes and cupcakes. I don't really understand cup cake rage. Surely if a foodstuff offends you that much, it's easy enough to just, well, not eat it...

I usually make two batches. Dh eats them all. Would seem silly to make six.

No difference at all, except in the balance between cake and icing.

Fairy cake, light fluffy sponge, small blob of butter cream and turn it into a butterfly cake, or a thin layer of butter cream or glacé icing and minimal other decoration.

Cupcake, when you get the piping bag out and the decoration is more important than the cake (which has dried out while you faf).

Cupcakes have a mass of over sweetened, highly coloured cream cheese icing on top so they look massive even though the cake is the same size.

Fairy cakes have a thin layer of icing on top so it's still mostly cake.

Personally, I like something half way between the too.

Fairy cakes are a bit dull and can be improved by a bit of care making good orange, lemon or chocolate icing and applying a reasonable amount.

However, 50% bright pink butter great, 50% dry sponge at coffee shop prices is not good!
