To arrange to descend on my local Starbucks with an army of toddlers after being told to keep my one year old laughing child quiet in there today by miserable manager?

I would understand if I was letting him run riot but he was sitting lovely (for once!) and laughing!

No YANBU at all, if he was sat down and not running riot. Miserable cow!

Glastogirl · 25/07/2014 23:08

YANBU!

YANBU...

Except... Call me cynical... But...

I don't believe that you are telling us the whole story are you OP??

Your 1yo burst out in laughter and the manager marched over and told you to be quiet. That was it??

hmc · 25/07/2014 23:13

It sounds quite a bizarre reaction from the manager - forgive me op but are you being entirely straight with us; was he really sitting there nicely and laughing gaily or could there have been a bit more to it (eg banging a spoon on the table etc)?

layla888 · 25/07/2014 23:13

Whole story or not everyone has a right to a latt and piece of cake and having kids or not shouldn't be an issue.

QuintessentiallyQS · 25/07/2014 23:14

Extended Tickling session? Playing peekaboo?

Elsmom · 25/07/2014 23:15

I only brought it up on here because I was shocked to be honest. It's the absolute truth he was sitting lovely from the moment we walked in, having some lunch and laughing at me and my sister talking to him. Nothing more! We were too surprised to say anything when she came over as there is no way there was any need for it, it was midday, loud and busy and he was doing nothing but laughing! I had a word with her after and she mumbled something about her not being able to hear customers because the blenders are too loud. Well don't take it out on my boy!!

Disagree Layla - there is a requirement to consider others in a shared space.

hmc · 25/07/2014 23:16

In that case Elsm

Complain to their head office instead.

hmc · 25/07/2014 23:17

Oops elsmum - she was completely out of line

FiftyShadesOfGreen4205 · 25/07/2014 23:21

I was described as 'that fucking pregnant woman' by a clearly struggling Starbucks employee once. I had the audacity to order a drink and he said it to the woman on the till, nodding in my direction, as I was waiting. This was several years ago and have not set foot in one since.

ICanSeeTheSun · 25/07/2014 23:24

This can't be serious, the manager complained about a laughing baby.

BabyMarmoset · 25/07/2014 23:26

Well that's pretty terrible then.

Given you can't move around my local Starbucks without tripping over a Bugaboo I suspect the manager would have been lynched on site. (But in a very way, whilst also performance parenting and ensuring everything is repeated in both English and French)

I wouldn't bother complaining though. Just go back and try to trip her up whilst she is carrying a tray. That'll learn her

WarblingOyster · 25/07/2014 23:28

You should have spent the rest of your visit cackling as loud as possible and exclaiming loudly how hilarious your DS is.

Ponkernonsir · 25/07/2014 23:29

How odd! My local one is rammed with au pairs, bear breasted Boden and lentil weavers!

PushPineapple · 25/07/2014 23:32

Was he chuckling or is he a shrieker?

Elsmom · 25/07/2014 23:34

Not a shrieked, more of a deep from the bottom of his belly chuckle. I think it's hilarious, apparently it's not so amusing to others!

OP posts:
Elsmom · 25/07/2014 23:35

shrieker

Sorry to ask, but how does your baby laugh? Does it sound similar to the typical human baby, especially in relation to pitch and volume? When he laughs, does he sound as if he's screaming or crying or having an almighty tantrum? Did you try explaining to the manager that actually, he was not tantruming but just laughing?

I feel this must have been a terrible misunderstanding. Everyone loves a laughing baby.

kawliga · 25/07/2014 23:41

Sorry, x-post, I see it is a deep belly chuckle. Does it sound a bit alarming, like more of a growling sound? Maybe the manager was frightened and just needed to be reassured that everything was ok and that's just how he laughs nothing horrible is about to happen?

CoffeeTea103 · 25/07/2014 23:41

The thing is to you it might have sounded soft and pleasant, but to others could have been shrieking and irritating. We just won't know given the managers reaction. It can't possibly be to a baby who was so quiet and having a giggle.

Elsmom · 25/07/2014 23:42

I understand why you are asking, nobody wants to hear a horrible shrieking noise while having a cuppa but honestly it's a proper baby chuckle, people walking by when he does it often stop and laugh and talk to us. It could not have been mistaken by anything else.
