He's been ranting and raving all day about how it's her own fault and "she doesn't deserve the well wishes".

The public outpour will always be present in this day and age when someone famous passes. It may not be liked by some (I find the RIP.... Wishes whoever they are concerning a bit odd on a public forum like FB myself) but bloody hell they are aimed at the family.

Whichever way you look at it the circumstances are absolutely devastating. She clearly suffered from a serious addiction that she couldn't overcome. It's sad, I feel sorry for everyone involved. Do some people really have that little compassion that they can't see that even though it was an overdose the poor woman (along with millions of others) clearly suffered a lot in her personal life?

Ach it's not really a friend more a family member (through marriage) and he posts a lot about the kids that I love seeing.

Yeah - one click of the mouse and he's gone. Easy-peasy.

I don't want to remove him he is family I guess just for him to zip it. I'm fully prepared to ignore but not remove, that's a bit extreme

He won't actually shut up if you tell him to, though, will he? You'll just end up having a row. Unfollow him and you can hook him back up when he's found some other sleb carcrash to chunter on about.

I've had to bite my tongue, but for the opposite reason.

I've had people on my FB giving sympathy and understanding to Peaches addiction and death, yet I've been out with them and we've passed addicts, which has promoted rants from them about "dirty smack heads" and how they should all be shipped out somewhere.

They also wouldn't give a recovered addict the time if day and would enjoy taking the piss out of their lack of teeth etc.

All you are dealing with is a difference of opinion, he's entitled to his, just ignore.

Is he saying this on your FB - or on his FB and you're reading it? Because if it's his then he can post what he likes on it, and you have the choice whether you read it or not.

How would you react to someone telling you what you could and couldn't post? If someone tried it with me I'd tell them to jog on and carry on regardless.

I do actually agree with what you are saying about his choice of subject matter - but I don't agree that you should tell him to shut up.

You could block him, add him to an acquaintance list etc - but you don't want to. Therefore it is your choice to keep reading everything he posts. Just as it's his choice to post what he does.

I think in this scenario you either need to choose not to read his updates, which may include things you would like to read - or read them on the understanding that you may not like them all. You can't tell him what he can and can't post though.

No, don't paste a PA status update in return. I would delete him, what's the point in having people who annoy you on FB? So what if he's family, it's not compulsory to have anyone as a friend.
