£30k holiday budget GrinHmmEnvyGrin really????!! Wow. I can't begin to imagine how much money you have before you start spending that amount on holidays.

Or maybe it's not the whole truth...

But I do have a front and back garden! No bloody driveway or utility room though Grin

NinjaPanda34 · 22/07/2014 21:51

I have a £30k holiday budget... Yeah in my head! Making that in a year poor teacher would be nice (dreams...)

MarmiteMania · 22/07/2014 21:52

We agreed to do a week skiing last feb with an old school friend of mine. They are now incredibly wealthy, we are not. Should have known better.. before we knew it we had a bill for 35k. Lovely week though.. but makes me feel sick to think about it

DrJuno · 22/07/2014 21:59

35k for a week????!!!!!

I have an inheritance but no garden.

I'm a disappointment Smile

SirChenjin · 22/07/2014 22:04

35K for a week?? How??????? Shock

You obviously have the money though....which makes your friends beyond wealthy in my book Grin

JaceLancs · 22/07/2014 22:08

I have been a single parent for most of the last 17 years - money has been very tight
I do have a garden but a very large mortgage due to buying out 2 previous partners and various other debts
Last year for the very first time I managed to earn more than the average wage
I expect no inheritances just hope there are no debts or nursing home top ups to pay
However, I have managed to put 2 children through university, enjoy very good relationships with my now adult children, have some wonderful friends and love my job most of the time
As I live in a reasonably affluent area, I always feel like the poor relation especially when it comes to things like cars, holidays or home improvements - I envy many people but am equally aware that many envy me

gaggiagirl · 22/07/2014 22:09

Used to have a huge garden and a nice home and disposable income with EA ex.

Now me and DD are renting a tiny house with a tiny yard and we are looking forward to our sun holiday and even though I scrimp and save every day I couldn't be happier or more excited about the future.

OnIlkleyMoorBahTwat · 22/07/2014 22:15

I have a garden, it's not all it's cracked up to be. Bastard grass and hedges always need cutting. I also have the World'sLoudest Neighbours(TM) that sit in the garden drinking and yelling at each other every time the dun shines, so does not make for a relaxing time.

I will never receive much if an inheritance, which I'm not bothered about. I'm happy to make my own way in the world.

I do however feel special sympathy for those out there that are unfortunate enough to be burdened by inheritence tax, because inheriting an entire house or a substantial six figure sum does not make one particularly well off, oh no. Hmm.

WildThong · 22/07/2014 22:16

I was on holiday recently, self catering, had a lovely time. This yacht came into the harbour - it cost 100k just to refuel it. (Oh struck up a conversation with the harbour master) I was like Shock

to feel like a pauper on here
SirChenjin · 22/07/2014 22:24

Bloody hell Shock. I've just put £60 petrol in my car and am Not Happy - that kind of puts it into perspective

Frogisatwat · 22/07/2014 22:25

Is that the lady maura wild?

WildThong · 22/07/2014 22:30

Frog - it's Radiant

And it wasn't the only superyacht to come in either. How the other half live indeed.

CheerfulYank · 22/07/2014 22:33

I have almost an acre but live in the states and everyone has a yard, if you don't live in a city. My parents live in the country and have 11 acres they got cheap.

I have inherited the use of a small cabin that belonged to my grandmother and that's where we go on all of our holidays. Again, this is not unusual in my part of the US because almost everyone has land on a lake in the family because most of us are only three or four generations from ancestors who came over from Scandinavia and settled on the lakes.

I'd guess (googling dollars to pounds) that we live on about 40k pounds a year. There are four of us.

Staryyeyedsurprise · 22/07/2014 22:33

Woah back up! marmitemania can we have details please? Just completely beyond my comprehension. Did you split 50/50?

ArgyMargy · 22/07/2014 22:39

YABU. People are constantly talking about tax credits, food banks, prepay meters etc. I would say the opposite - I often feel like a millionaire on here!

MarmiteMania · 22/07/2014 22:44

Yes they paid the same, chalet was 60k in total for week inc chauffeur, professional chef and housekeeper. And no we couldn't afford it!! Doubt v much we'll do it again I still feel sick thinking about it. Interesting to see how the other half live though!

ArgyMargy · 22/07/2014 22:49

Ok I take it all back - marmite' spots has definitely made me feel like a pauper...

ArgyMargy · 22/07/2014 22:49

Post, not spots, fgs!!

Staryyeyedsurprise · 22/07/2014 22:54

Jesus frigging Christ marmite I'd have had to remortgage! And probably sell a kidney!

Was it worth it?

AnyFucker · 22/07/2014 22:56

I was counting my blessings today, and most of them were nothing to do with how much many I have

Sunshine, a good book, an icecold Bulmer's, a pussycat to stroke that isn't even mine, family all safe and sound.

Peace of mind

It's priceless.

AnyFucker · 22/07/2014 22:56

*money

MarmiteMania · 22/07/2014 22:59

Only problem is nothing will ever measure up! I think the truth is whatever you have (material, health etc), the trick is not to take it for granted as you stop being happy. For my friend it was just another holiday- but for us it was the holiday of a lifetime

Rainicorn · 22/07/2014 23:01

I have massive garden and a front garden with a hedge. It's a council house though, will never be able to get a mortgage.

When I first joined MN I did feel out of my depth financially as lots of threads on what to get the nanny for Christmas, and shall I wear my gold encrusted cod piece to meet the queen. Soon got over myself and realised MN was also full of commoners just like me Grin

MarmiteMania · 22/07/2014 23:01

Anyfucker you are spot on.

TheBuskersDog · 22/07/2014 23:02

But Marmite surely you discussed the cost beforehand, for most people £3.5k for a week is a lot nevermind 35k, how much were you expecting it to be and how did you pay for it?
