Just been reading the brilliant and nostalgic threads about all the things parents did then that would be massively judged now so thought it would be fun to start a 70s/80s AIBU

Want to join me..?

Here goes,

AIBU to not want to have the whole of the street come and watch a football match on our new black and white TV?

Jenny ONLY if you make 'chicken supreme' with a can of Campbells condensed mushroom soup on Wednesday

HauntedNoddyCar · 20/07/2014 23:05

Silver my Nancy used baby oil instead of sun cream. It didn't go well...

AIBU to ask if anyone knows wtf The Reflex is about?

HauntedNoddyCar · 20/07/2014 23:06

My nan. Not Nancy. Nan. Stupid phone.

gordyslovesheep · 20/07/2014 23:06

wasn't it about a lonely child waiting in the dark?

JennyOnTheBlocks · 20/07/2014 23:07

We've been invited round to the neighbours for a few Watneys party sevens and a bit of a smoke aibu to put all the children to sleep in one room together even though some have never met each other before, and send one of the least pissed adults up to make sure none of them --have escaped- are crying

We'll pick them up in the morning

ADishBestEatenCold · 20/07/2014 23:07

"OMG!! I was 11!!!"

When, HeeHiles, when? 1970? 1989?

AIBU to think that a 20 year period is one hell of a long time span to be all lumped together in one A 1970s/80s AIBU ?

HeeHiles · 20/07/2014 23:08

Jenny In 40 years time you will have to remember how to make a chicken last the week again Sad

HeeHiles · 20/07/2014 23:09

Dish 1976 according to Wiki - The Frank Finlay one - it was shocking!

HauntedNoddyCar · 20/07/2014 23:09

Gordy. Isn't that bizarre?

I wasn't a Duranie so my lyrics may be wrong!

UniS · 20/07/2014 23:11

To bath my child in detol after they went paddling in local ( west london ) stream whilst under nana's supervision.

HeeHiles · 20/07/2014 23:11

I agree the 70's were way different to the 80's

Timeisawastin · 20/07/2014 23:11

Mum and Dad, it's amazing that you've bought us a video player, and it's a VHS! And thanks for choosing two family friendly animal films at our first ever trip to the video shop....................The Elephant Man and the Deerhunter...

JennyOnTheBlocks · 20/07/2014 23:12

40 years time I shall be sat in my many cardigans regaling the time I reached real vegetarianism ;)

Timeisawastin · 20/07/2014 23:13

Can you even imagine watching television in the morning before school?

gordyslovesheep · 20/07/2014 23:13

lol Noddy you are right - I was a bit of a fan but by the time it came out I had moved on to decent music Grin

Kickedintheteeth · 20/07/2014 23:13

AIBU to stick polystyrene ceiling tiles in the kitchen and artex every wall in the the house? Or gloss paint a babies cot to 'freshen it up'? My mother smoked like a chimney to save the Kensitas Club vouchers for a bouncy baby seat for my sister!

Timeisawastin · 20/07/2014 23:14

AIBU to wonder how many things you can fit in a matchbox for the school leprosy-aid sponsor event?

mineofuselessinformation · 20/07/2014 23:15

Anyone else have a pirate copy of ET that was terribly bad? Grin

Scarletohello · 20/07/2014 23:15

StandardHeight · 20/07/2014 23:19

AIBU to not send the piggin' milk bottle tops in to Blue Peter because I have absolutely no idea how the fuck they make money out of them.

Timeisawastin · 20/07/2014 23:19

AIBU to think that Ra-ra skirts are just so flattering?

HauntedNoddyCar · 20/07/2014 23:20

Waves pencil.

AIBU to snigger at the word pencil. And rubber.

TheFairyCaravan · 20/07/2014 23:20

AIBU to let my kids stay up to watch HAmmer House of Horrors when DH is on nights? They are 11, 9 and 7, it won't harm them will it?

Lilymaid · 20/07/2014 23:21

AIBU to give my 7 year old daughter her bus fare to get home from hospital after having her tonsils removed. DH and I want to go on holiday and have some "us" time and DD knows how to get to her granny's house to stay there for the week.
Not 70s but 50s - happened to a relative
