to think "my pool, my rules"

We have a swimming pool in the garden. The garden has high fences and is not overlooked. When I have guests I will wear both halves of a bikini, when I am alone, I am happy to leave the top off and sometimes not to bother at all. My attitude is "my pool, my rules" and as long as I am not subjecting anyone else to my attire or lack of it to think that this is my business. Besides, I hate the feel of a wet swimming costume if I can avoid it.

How is it controversial? Confused

Your thread title, "AIBU to think my pool my rules" implies that someone has said you can't do something in your own pool and you would opinions on whether you are unreasonable to think you can do what you want because it's your pool. Responses to that would have been YANBU and very supportive.

But in fact although you say "my pool my rules", it transpires no one has said anything to the contrary, so there is no AIBU question.

Which means basically it seems like you started this thread to tell everyone you have a pool and sunbathe nude by it. Hence the reaction you got.

Are your diamond flipflops too tight?

I didn't know you'd moved to the UK! I mean, there was that episode where you came to London...

YeGodsAndLittleFishes · 19/07/2014 09:07

A few people in our neighbourhood have pools; some outdoor, some indoor. Up to them, it's nothing to do with me. Personally I wouldn't want the hassle of maintainance and cleaning a pool and am not in the least interested in what these people wear in their back gardens!

Do you have a nosy neighbour, op?

Oh, where we used to live, we were friends of friends of a few families who have grand houses and impressive pools, and were invited sometimes along with the rest of the associated friends and family. I was pretty envious of it all back then, and when we moved we did look at one house with a pool but now really glad we didn't over spend to buy it.

ForalltheSaints · 19/07/2014 10:27

I am shocked. You have a pool that is totally private and you wear anything when swimming alone?

wanttosinglikemarycoughlan · 19/07/2014 10:31

Who is saying you should wear a full bikini?
If nobody is then what is the point of this thread?
If I'm alone in the house, or if only dh or DC in, I leave the bathroom door open aibu?
What tosh

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 19/07/2014 10:40

I take my pants off in my bathroom when I need to use the loo, as it's much more comfortable and convenient. AIBU to think, my loo, my rules?

PomPomPingPong · 19/07/2014 10:42

Well i'll go to the foot of our stairs.

Zucker · 19/07/2014 10:44

Has someone complained about you going topless in your pool OP? Have you forgotten to type the rest of your OP?

Scrolling back to search for the controversy Shock

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 19/07/2014 10:44

I'm almost certain there's a Farrow and Ball colour called Clunch, and it's sort of mucky white.

Pooka · 19/07/2014 10:45

It's clunch pit. Nice in a south facing bedroom.

GretchenWiener · 19/07/2014 10:46

did i just see WANDERINGTROLLEY on here?
M'brother sends some love -and fleas--

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 19/07/2014 10:49

Clunch pit? That's even worse!

KurriKurri · 19/07/2014 10:51

No one cares if you choose to flap around in your pool tits akimbo - I certainly don't, - I would be very very disappointed if you didn't have one of those giant inflatable crocodiles though.

Koothrapanties · 19/07/2014 10:51

Still laughing at clinger.

I really hope if the op has a clinger she won't be using her pool. Wipe first op.

Nancy66 · 19/07/2014 10:52

Always baffled why anybody would have an outdoor swimming pool in the UK. Hardly worth the hassle and expense for the 20 days a year you'll be able to use it.

noddyholder · 19/07/2014 11:02

I can never understand why anyone having anything which is nice/ costs a few quid causes such a furore on MN like its a boast My parents have a pool and are new money tastic

Koothrapanties · 19/07/2014 11:07

Nancy if it's heated then I can see why! Using a heated pool on a chilly day is utter bliss.

HecatePropylaea · 19/07/2014 11:07

I've got one. We generally get very good use out of it from about mid april/early may all the way through to october. If the water's warm and it's not ridiculously chilly out then you can use it even if it's raining. You're already as wet as it's possible to get. Grin

GreeboOgg · 19/07/2014 11:39

Koothrapanties 'scuse me but I think you'll find it's her pool, her rules, and if she wants to go swimming with clingers still attached then she can.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 19/07/2014 11:50

I'm not seeing the issue. Okay, so there is a lack of private pools on my council estate, but I have seen plenty of people sunbathing topless in their gardens. My mums neighbour is in her 70s and still does it.

And re the amercian/britain comment, i thought it was americans who were v prudish when it came to visible nipples. We have them in the newspaper and everything.

sanfairyanne · 19/07/2014 11:50

dont burn

LilRedWG · 19/07/2014 11:53

Too ill to add anything witty (stealth pity party) but am loving this thread. Grin Grin
