to chop my sodding leg off if this pain doesn't ease up soon

Of course I wouldn't actually chop it off, but, I have a lot of pain in my knee, I have had it since about April. Back then it came and went but now it is pretty much constant.
I have been to my GP who referred me for an MRI. I had that done on Monday and am now waiting for the results to go to my GP (they gave me a copy cd of my MRI images but obv I have no idea what I am looking at, although I can see whatever it is that is causing me pain I've no idea what it actually is).

It is progressively getting worse, I struggle to sit comfortably, walking /bending can be a nightmare and I cant really get comfy at night, kneeling to help get my son dressed is completely out of the question.

I have Ibuprofen gel and put cold compresses on it, keeping it up when I can, but I am now at the point where I am struggling so much with it.

I know its only about a weeks more wait for the results of my MRI and so I need to try and be patient, but I am really struggling.

I am with you on this one and could've written your post myself. Can I borrow the axe when your have finished with it? Fri 13th June I tore cartilage on right knee stepping from hall to porch. Still on painkillers, physio, icepacks, rest, no work and no dog walks (DH & DS doing the latter). Had an MRI showed worn knee cap. Am seeing knee specialist Mon having Xray before that. Am shuffing round with a stick and I know this happened bcos am carrying 2much weight. Prior to this went to the gym and think I could've done some damage there. Bending the leg is worst to get into bed, put sox on, sit on loo, foot up on footstall. wrt painkillers, I am on 2 x 500mg paracetamol x 4/day & 1 x 500mg naproxen for the inflammation x2/day.

Bumping for you. The worst pain is when I accidentally kick my walking stick with my bad leg whilst walking. I should have a swear box on the walking stick and make a fortune.

PedlarsSpanner · 18/07/2014 17:11

Would your GP prescribe strong painkillers for the interim?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 18/07/2014 17:25

Have you seen a physio?Thanks

askyfullofstars · 18/07/2014 18:01

No of course you can! Try and see one asap, they will make you more comfortable even if they can't cure it.

askyfullofstars · 18/07/2014 18:54

You do know about alternating ibruprofen and paracetemol don't you, so that the relief never goes below a certain level?

Ice packs etc to reduce inflamation...

Tens machine. I ignore the "40 mins only" and put it on highest for as long as I think necessary.

Pillow under knee and under ankle at night, and not too many under neck.

A good glass of good red wine late at night.

Backpack to carry anything.

Check heels not worn down on shoes.

Hope they improve.

FlimFlamFloo · 18/07/2014 20:12

am with you all!

bum knee since may, hurts all the time.

waiting for results next week of blood tests and xray.

am seriously thinking about getting a walking stick!

Spartak · 18/07/2014 20:12

Use a walking stick on your good side, not your bad knee side to offload the weight onto your stronger knee.

It might be worth asking your GP for stronger painkillers as well.

Drumsticks99 · 18/07/2014 21:36

See an Osteopath.

Namechangearoonie123 · 18/07/2014 21:39

Can you get better paink killers in the meantime?

I called my doctor because I buggered my back laying a tiled floor and she prescribed me cocodamol immediately. It made a difference in about 2 days.

You need to eat with them though as I found they made me a bit wibbly and nauseous

kali110 · 18/07/2014 21:40

With you. Had knee pain for 3 years ??

kali110 · 18/07/2014 21:41
