To eat the 'wrong' way round

I use my cutlery the wrong way round when eating- would you notice? Would you judge me?
Should I at the age of 32 just learn to eat the right way round?!

I use mind left handed but I'm right handed. I can't do it the 'right' way round. Fuck them my food, my plate, my mouth and my hands so I'll eat however I damn well please

Best TAAT this year!
Omg! The beauty of "inward shuddering" and similar responses to the use of a knife in the left hand.
Please keep it coming ppl. I genuinely find a pathetic joy in this kind of small minded admission of an attack of the hyacynths.

I do this and my sister used to this. I noticed recently that she now eats the right way round so clearly it was an issue for her.

My dc's do it but My dh hates it and we have fallen out on a number of occasions when he makes them swap their cutlery round. They make a fuss and I don't back him up. whatever

Have always wondered if IABU.

You would have to be sitting blooming close to someone to bash elbows with them! I used to eat in formal hall at college all bumped together on benches and never bumped elbows with anyone due to my undefined way of eating.

Be it's more an issue in prison then. Assuming a cramped dining area.

fluffyraggies · 18/07/2014 21:02

I do it. I'm afraid all 3 of my older DDs do too. Only one of us is left handed, and that's one of the DDs.

Never had a comment. We just quietly swap knife and fork when the meal arrives and off we go.

Impeccable table manners (apart form that) are drummed into my DCs and they could go anywhere with anyone to eat and feel comfortable knowing how to behave. As they have done from an early age.

Mim78 · 18/07/2014 21:13

Not judging, but surely it is more difficult for aright handed person?

fluffyraggies · 18/07/2014 21:19

I see it like this - if you're right handed, and you have food to eat with just a fork - chips, say - you'd use your right hand wouldn't you? (Like you would a spoon for soup). Up and down to your mouth with your right hand.

For me it seems only natural to carry on doing this when using a knife as well - and knife goes in the left hand, fork stays going to the mouth in the right hand. If i had to start using my left hand to put things in my mouth it'd feel very wrong Grin

'Inwardly shudder'?

Really?

My DS and I are both right handed and eat using our fork in our right hand and knife in our left. In our house, this is the correct way to eat, not the wrong way, as we have always done it. Anyone that eats the other way round and comes to our house, will find that they have to change their knife and fork, as we set the table the way we eat.

It was a huge issue for me on primary school, as the Head Teacher used to make me use my knife and fork the wrong way round and it was such a struggle. In the end, my Mum had words with him and basically told him to leave me alone.

I don't really care which hand someone has their knife and fork in. I'd be more bothered if they ate with their mouth open, picked up food with their hands or made slopping noises whilst they ate.
