Just watching Ab Fab after Saffy has her baby. She is using She-who-must-not-be-named so that "she feels safe and secure, so that she knows she will never be left never go hungry. You left me to bring myself up, find money for bus fare to dads....... you left me in the dark with no walls........... I didnt know what was safe to eat, I had my stomach pumped 5 times before I was three!"

Were was the devoted daddy? He paid for Saffys uni fees, he says he loves her, plays the good guy against Eddies abusive mother, but if he loved her that much then he would have removed her from Eddie and brought her up himself wouldnt he? And "Gran", where was she when her grandaughter was being neglected?

Maybe its MNitis, but I am cant laugh at those bits.

Those bits aren't funny, but sitcoms always draw on the darker side of life to make it more absurd, maybe playing on undertaker humour and people finding it even funnier when they know they shouldn't laugh?

Off the top of my head programs like only fools and horses, bottom, porridge, steptoe and son, all draw on pretty extreme/terrible circumstances using people who have enough problems to last a lifetime. In only fools there were plenty of times where it was written specifically to make you cry rather than laugh.

They're just exaggerations of the people everyone knows and avoids if they can. It's the cringe factor sitcoms I can't watch like (I know it was a while back but I can't think of another example) that one michael crawford was in

Hmmmm. It's always been a mystery as to why Justin left Saffy in Eddy's care given he seemed the more responsible parent?

Remember Eddy did thump the sleazy university professor in Saffy's defence (loved that episode!) so maybe she did have some redeeming qualities.
Wouldn't a child having their stomach pumped 5 times before they were 3 involve a SS visit ?
