Because we probably shouldn't still be hanging out in AIBU, four (or is it five?) threads later.

I've been reading all the lovely transcripts, and although I started Prefects yesterday, I don't want to finish it, because it's the last one! :-(

Well as long as I don't see Matey wearing them around the staff room tomorrow evening.
I will definitely need a shot of hot milk after that. Shock

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 13/07/2014 22:06

Can I dress as Mary-Lou, with my two pieces of crepe paper? I could have some kenwigses and do a good imitation of her bell-like voice, and then the crepe efforts would be kind of irrelevant really. Actually I might just do this anyway, without the crepe occasion. It would be like when the Middles all decide to speak like Jane Austen - bizarre, insolent, but not actually breaking any existing rules.

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 13/07/2014 22:07

I think she'll save that for the Christmas pantomime, Vintage. I bet she's getting Joey or Madge to write something very specific to incorporate them.

Vintagejazz · 13/07/2014 22:10

Do you think they'd write in a role for a toilet roll as well?

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 13/07/2014 22:10

Do you know, I think I could totally tolerate another boring rendition of 'Peggy Bettany the fairy queen' or whatever if it was actually 'Peggy Bettany the fairy queen, and Matey clad in lime green velveteen hot pants'.

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 13/07/2014 22:12

'Peggy Bettany the fairy queen, Matey clad in lime green velveteen hot pants, and the stray toilet roll'.

It'll be a Chalet classic. Tears of mirth and gasps of delight all round.

The gin is still in the stationery cupboard, green ink bottle at the back...

Another question: am just re-reading Exile....how come Joey was godmother to Josette (born 2 months after Joeys wedding) but Madge couldn't be godmother to any of Joeys brood? Was it simply Joey wouldn't have been fully converted or not considered fully a catholic?

Vintagejazz · 13/07/2014 22:18

Joey's children were Catholic so would have to have Catholic godparents.

middlings · 13/07/2014 22:24

Could I have a link to the transcripts too please! Oh what fun!

Otherwise my Irish shelf will be like Biddy and have to start making up stories of banshees.

anything to distract from the work I should be doing

HercShipwright · 13/07/2014 22:26

May I have a link too, please? Thanks.

RueDeWakening · 13/07/2014 22:47

Robin - I wondered that, too, she's definitely not Catholic when they leave Tirol I think, but is by the time the trips are born.

The fill in when Joey meets Patricia on Guernsey was interesting, and gave a reasonable explanation for her conversion I thought.

EElisavetaofBelsornia · 13/07/2014 23:01

I think I read that one Rue - she became a Catholic because it was about as convincing a belief system as homeopathy, IIRC.

SockQueen · 14/07/2014 00:04

Please may I have the transcripts link too? I can't believe I haven't asked before now!

YouWithTheFace · 14/07/2014 08:51

Re names. I've got a Chalet name. Except you'll never remember it because flipping Joey nicknames the poor child on p 3 or something and BANG goes my big namey moment. I was really bitter because for some reason my name is seldom used in books or films, and usually just for minor, dislikable or crazy characters.

RobinHumphries · 14/07/2014 09:28

How come Marylou doesn't have to write that Shakespeare quote "her voice was ever soft, gentle and low, an excellent thing in a woman" 100 times a day every day? Sheer favouritism I tell you! I think Marylou would even be allowed to wear lime green velveteen hot pants without them being confiscated.

Still her clarion tones are useful for bringing down avalanches on her head.

Vintagejazz · 14/07/2014 10:39

Picturing Mary Lou on the back of a moped in lime green velveteen hot pants, with her kenswigses flying sexily in the breeze.

It's not really working!

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 14/07/2014 11:24

I feel a bit sorry for the 2/3 of Joey's triplets who don't really seem to get much of a godmother because they run off. Poor planning on EBD's part IMO, though maybe she was just really short of Catholic options.

Mary-Lou just isn't like that, Vintage. I do like the bit where she is trying to explain to Dr Jack that common Joan has the inappropriate sort of boyfriend, and Jack is wondering how on earth anyone could even begin to talk to Mary-Lou about boyfriends and other inappropriateness.

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 14/07/2014 11:26

I have sent the transcript details to all the recent requesters, btw - please let me know if I've missed you out.

HercShipwright · 14/07/2014 11:28

Thanks so much Nell.

I was in Salzburg recently. I started talk about CS. My colleagues weren't HUGELY impressed it has to be said.

They are cultural pygmies.

Same thing happened on Guernsey. :(

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 14/07/2014 11:29

I think btw that Joey's conversion was probably inevitable - as well as reflecting EBD's own conversion, I think it's v deliberate that Joey and Madge (also, Nell and Hilda) sort of represent the mixed-denomination ethos of the school. I bet she would have paid more attention to it if she hadn't had to fit it in with the Anschluss.

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 14/07/2014 11:31

You're very welcome Herc.

YouWithTheFace, I am now trying to remember all the poor children who get their name stolen and immediately Joey-ified into "Roger" or similar.

My name is v un-Chalet. As is DS'. Nominations for the names of putative future offspring welcome.

PrincessOfChina · 14/07/2014 11:38

Please, if someone has a moment, can I get a link to the transcripts. I foolishly sent a ton of CS books to the charity a few months ago after collecting them while I was on Mat leave. I've been kicking myself ever since.

Thank you!

Scaredofpills · 14/07/2014 11:50

Youwiththeface, is your character a twin?
