Because we probably shouldn't still be hanging out in AIBU, four (or is it five?) threads later.

I've been reading all the lovely transcripts, and although I started Prefects yesterday, I don't want to finish it, because it's the last one! :-(

Argh, fucking phone! Betty probably could have been killed - bookends are heavy and often have sharp corners so if it hit her in the right place/at the right angle it could do serious damage. Probably not enormously likely but definitely possible. And even if it wasn't, 16-year olds really shouldn't be throwing anything at anyone! Let alone then letting them take some of the blame!

ZweiPfennig · 05/08/2014 18:54

I think Margot was sent to be a Nun as EBD couldn't think what else she could do with her. Of the Trips, she is the one that for some reason I took a dislike to. Len was OK, Con was dreamy and apt to wander off the plot, Margot was definitely a loose cannon. Being able to blame her devil was a great get out.

"I didn't mean it but the voices told me to" Hmm

And apart from the Trips cannot remember any of the other Maynard children. There was so much shared parenting [with various of the sprogs temporarily living with an aunt & uncle for one reason or another] in the Bettany/Maynard/Russell households that I have got myself mixed up.

Maybe I should start re-re reading the series again! Grin

mopsytop · 05/08/2014 18:57

Len, Con, Margot, then Steve, Charles, Mike, then Felix & Felicity (twins), then Cecily, then more twins, Phil (girl) & a boy whose name I can't remember.

ZweiPfennig · 05/08/2014 18:59

I agree about the languages! Painful to read. I can speak French and some German but no Italian. My schooldays were wasted. Wink
Some of the French is of the style "The pen of my aunt is in the garden"
rather than "my aunt's pen is outside" (hope that makes sense!)

Impressed, mopsytop Grin

mopsytop · 05/08/2014 19:02

Bettany family = Rix and Peggy (twins), Bride, Jackie, Maeve & Maurice (twins) and then much later an afterthought called, I think, Daphne.

Russell family = David, Sybil, Josette, Ailie, Kevin & Lester (twins)

mopsytop · 05/08/2014 19:03

What a waste of my memory! I can't remember the most basic of day-to-day stuff if I don't put it in my diary...

mopsytop · 05/08/2014 19:08

Yeah, a lot of the French is in that stilted style, but even worse is that it is generally just wrong! EBD was obviously terrible at languages!

RobinHumphries · 05/08/2014 19:37

Geoff is the twin to Phil

YouWithTheFace · 05/08/2014 20:24

And it's Kevin and Kester :)

I've got a diary, somewhere. If I could find my glasses, I could look for my diary. Grin

Don't forget joeys adopted baby Marie Claire and her wards the Richardsons and Erica. Grin

Margot became nun because of her devil. It's like the temptations in the desert. Smile

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 05/08/2014 21:24

The other Maynard children are not at all memorable iirc. Really, the triplets are only "memorable" insofar as we are reminded that they are respectively responsible, dreamy and bad approximately once a chapter from birth, and once a page from when they start school.

"Joey is wholesale" makes me laugh, though probably not in an intended way...

Thebodyloveschocolateandwine · 05/08/2014 21:25

Kathy ferris does call out Mary Lou for bring pain in the Tse but as soon as she saves her life she sees her mistake.

They all pop out babies like rabbits. When poor Simone has secondary infertility she's pitied by Joey who patronised her for now being able to steam ahead with a real family

Bloody woman's a nightmare.

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 05/08/2014 21:31

Does Simone have secondary infertility, or is it more that they can't afford another child for some time? I hate how Joey's tactlessness is supposed to be seen as some kind of charming quirk and not just inconsiderate rudeness.

Learning to accept "that's just ML" is right up there with learning to talk all three languages fluently by half term - I can't understand it but it always seems to happen. I enjoyed seeing Kathie not appreciate "that's just ML" and am always disappointed when she sees the light.

DeWee · 05/08/2014 21:59

.... What has been happening while I've been away?
Anyone squashed ML, or out babied Joey yet? Or found Mrs A's secret reading glasses?

I've been on holiday. Not to Tyrol unfortunately. But near enough to Rye I entertained annoyed my family with references to Lone Piners and Tamzin, Rissa and co. We even went on the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch railway just like the Lone Piners (and the Wrestling lot too)...

The language never bothered me in the CS books simply because my French is at the "This is the book of the teacher's" level, and my German is worse. Obviously was an advantage.

I can relate to fainting with pain once. I pulled a muscle in my back last year, thought I could sleep it off with an ibroprofin, and woke up to find I could hardly move, all phones downstairs and children to meet from school. So very stupidly, I got myself up to some semblence of upright and decided to walk downstairs to the phone...
About half way down, (sounding like the Bricklayer's story) I went very faint with the pain. Realising that if I fainted on the stairs I was likely to do worse things to my back and possible other injuries besides, I did manage to get downstairs before I went completely.
I will say I do go into shock very easily, and always have done, and I think it was partually shock, but it's the only time I have fainted due to pain. Worst pain I've ever felt.

But actually the best thing is for me is for people around me to go very matter of fact. the way Joey's treated when she goes faint is the worst thing for me, as I struggle to get over it then. I need someone to be bracing and tell me it's not the time to faint. That does actually work. Grin
