To wonder why MNHQ still haven't given us our Chalet School topic?

Because we probably shouldn't still be hanging out in AIBU, four (or is it five?) threads later.

I've been reading all the lovely transcripts, and although I started Prefects yesterday, I don't want to finish it, because it's the last one! :-(

Stokey isn't "brats" randomly confined to one book only? I think it's another of EBD's enthusiastically-grasped, weakly-maintained oddities. (Or was possibly received poorly at the time? But I do think these kind of passionate-but-brief fancies are v characteristic of the books. I really like this feature - it is almost as comforting as the familiar school routines and the endless hot milk.)

Matey and Miss Annersley are v impressed with the third sleeve idea. They're looking to incorporate it into the uniform, apparently. Are we still flame and brown, or have we switched to gentian blue now?

RobinHumphries · 20/07/2014 21:09

Oh you are behind the times Nell. We are now all in lime green!

hels71 · 20/07/2014 21:12

Do you think we have not got our own topic because we asked in the wrong language???

JoeyMaynardsghost · 20/07/2014 21:25

hels

Pensez-vous que nous n'avons pas notre propre sujet parce que nous avons demandé dans la bonne langue???

Glauben Sie, dass wir nicht unser eigenes Thema haben, weil wir in der falschen Sprache gefragt??

Maybe we need to ask.in Belsornian...

Stokey · 20/07/2014 21:41

Anyone up for some Morris dancing? It is proper exercise you know.

Maybe brats is just in Oberland, Nell

It's Sunday, any language is acceptable, non? I'm going to learn Italian so I can deviously understand the staff. Ciao.

mummytime · 20/07/2014 21:49

I've come across Brats in several books. But it's the kind of thing we were called as children as a sign of affection, along with scallywags which had nothing like the Liverpool connotation.

Vintagejazz · 20/07/2014 22:48

Mary Lou has DIED Robin Shock??

Oh, how sad. Anyway, Joan Baker's mother has sent her some shop bought cake and a bottle of gin so would anyone like to meet in the Summerhouse to share it out?

Vintagejazz · 20/07/2014 23:11

Just read the bit in Problem where Simone has had a second son and Joey is all dismissive and why couldn't she have had a daughter as that was what big sister Tessa would have liked, and Jack is far too busy to go to the christening so they'll have to find a proxy for Godfather.

Simone really should have told Joey to just fuck off and have a nice life.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 21/07/2014 09:47

Doesn't Dr Jem use 'brats' as well in the Sonnalpe years? I see it as a term of endearments, tbh.

Je voudrais un sujet pour l'Ecole de Chalet, o gentilles MNHQ (is MNHQ exclusively female, do you think?), s'il vous plait!

Grin at 'we're all in lime green now', Robin. Sorry, that was Joey - sometimes EBD says the French clothes-straightening fingers are inherited from a French grandmother or something, so why has Joey got them too? Her ancestry seems to be all English iirc.

Btw, I adored the Bridget Jones drabbles! What is a drabble, btw? Is it just any fan-fic, or is it specifically light-hearted affectionate parodies?

DeWee · 21/07/2014 10:23

Joey can't possibly have French fingers. She's known for being untidy Shock

Joey was always horrid to Simone. I wishe Frieda or Marie had told her at some point how nasty she was.

Vintagejazz · 21/07/2014 10:49

Frieda and Marie were under Joey's spell. She could do no wrong.

Joey was also crowing about the fact that she still had a bigger family than Simone. Sad

fairnotfair · 21/07/2014 11:18

Ah, here you all are! I went on holiday and read a shedload of transcripts had a really bad school report, so my father decided to send me back to the English branch that nobody cares about until I got my act together. I was so upset that I really applied myself to my prep. As a result, I can now reason from cause to effect, use synthetic maps effectively, and consistently get high marks in dictee.

Apparently I'm in Alpenrose. Who's the dormy pree? What time is Kaffee? I've got some Red Stripe in my hatbox.

RueDeWakening · 21/07/2014 11:29

I am just back from climbing a mountain (honestly, don't ask...). Sadly, I was wearing inappropriate footwear, and cadged a lift back in a 4x4 along with the 1 year old, changing bag and handbag I was carrying.

Although there was a sudden storm and torrential rain at the top of the mountain, none of us appear to be down with pneumonia or similar. Also, nobody needed rescuing except the 4 year old who got stuck up a tree. Does this mean we can never be True CS Girls?

Vintagejazz · 21/07/2014 11:58

You got caught in a sudden form after being almost stranded up a mountain and you STILL didn't manage to meet a doctor? Shock Shock

You are a disgrace. Is your name secretly Joan Baker?

Vintagejazz · 21/07/2014 11:58

Sudden 'storm'.

RueDeWakening · 21/07/2014 13:51

Not a single one. I did meet someone just starting to train as a doctor, but 1) she was female and 2) she'll be a doctor of engineering, which I'm not sure counts also DH might complain if I eloped with his female cousin

Must. Try. Harder.

Vintagejazz · 21/07/2014 13:59

Do you think Matey would mind if we turned our lime green gymslips into lime green hotpants?

EatingMyWords · 21/07/2014 14:20

Does Joey ever actually wear lime green? I can only remember jade green.

fairnotfair · 21/07/2014 15:30

Sometimes she wears a soft blue, Eating.

Wasn't there a lime-green and cream minibus or something?

ToniWol · 21/07/2014 15:54

The minibus was lime green and cream - and to be fair to Joey it was actually Con who said those were her favourite colours.

Am fairly sure Joey did knit a lime green twin set at one point though.

Vintagejazz · 21/07/2014 16:01

Didn't she also dye herself lime green the day before her son Stephen was born?

hels71 · 21/07/2014 16:14

She certainly dyed herself green. I believe she was wearing a soft yellow semi evening frock at the time...

Vintagejazz · 21/07/2014 16:38

Yes, she was trying to dye the frock green I think.
